A Call for 2008 Team, Division, and/or League PREVIEWS

We've seen some great, yes fantastic writing, in the last couple weeks.

With that in mind, it's the annual time to sign up for writing Previews. The basic idea is to
  1. respond to this post with the name of the team that you will write a 2008 Preview for
  2. enrich the league by writing and posting the Preview!
  3. pass go and collect your Participation Points.
You can also conquer the tougher task of writing Division and even League Previews. This summary, whose link is found in our venerable Constitution, shows how much each type of Preview is worth in PPs.

NOTE: I am editing this in to say that you cannot peview your own team for this effort. The idea is to learn about another team. It's good for you and it's good (sometimes amusing, sometimes helpful) for the GM whose team your previewing!!

ANOTHER EDIT: Heh. We might want to hold off on volunteering to write more than one team preview till everybody's had a couple days to respond. If you really got writing fe(r)ver, you could preview a division.... or league. ;)

*

Now to be honest, the number of previews the past couple of preseasons has been shamefully low. So low, almost down to zero.

Who's for getting back to the glory days when we had dozens of team previews, and other previews? To read these previews, you can just keep scanning back through the League Features section to find them.

 I am linking to four past Team Previews (1) and (2) and (3) and, why not? (4) as well as a Division Preview, so we can remind ourselves of what we're talking about here. Notice that not all previews follow the same pattern.

New GMs are especially encouraged to write previews. Hopefully you'll inspire our Veteran GMs, who already know that they should be hard at work writing a preview or two.

So reply here, and then post also in this forum (League Features).

Sometimes folks like to write a preview of a team, and then the GM of that team will write a preview of the other team. What's important is to list here who or what you will be previewing.

Previews are best read (and thus written) before the season starts, but because we're all so busy, they are accepted before Sim 3 of the regular season. That gives us till, um, DECEMBER 12 (a week from tomorrow) to get those previews in!

However, to encourage timely previews, I will award 1 extra PP for every preview posted before the season begins (the deadline for this bonus point is 8am Central, December 9.)

I would love to write a division, conference or even league preview, but it is tough to have a firm pulse of such things before having played at least a season here. I'll of course write my own team preview (was planning to anyway) and will take up a few other teams if it is okay with their owners as well - don't want to steal their thunder if they were planning to do so already, though... OR, if anyone would like to swap previews with me (you write one for Omaha, I write one for you) that could be fun as well.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Newer GMs aren't supposed to know more than they can perceive by standard participation since they've been here. A good tool for team previews is the Individual Team Offseason Summaries that is in the game. Or just look at a team's transaction list online or in game.

I guess I did not make it clear that in order to get PPs for this, you cannot preview your own team!

EDITED: That is, you cannot get PPs for a Team Preview for previewing your own team. You can always get Team News points for writing about your team, even a preview. :)

Allllll right, guys! Now this response is what I'm talking about! Can't wait to see all the previews. And you'll note that you'll get a quick start on your annual PP requirement as well as enriching the league and helping a fellow GM see his team through different eyes.

This is awesome. Taking a great step here....perhaps next year we can get into a regular rotation for previews and have them 100% moving forward. They really, really help us all to learn the league better.

More knowledge equals better GM's equals more competition....and that means more fun. :)
