2053 Yellow Springs Nine Preview
Like Oliver Stone, the Nine have to face up to life after the Platoon. All that low-level clubhouse muttering about playing in every game will be put to rest in 2053 as a bunch of Yellow Springs players will flex their muscles against all hands of pitchers.
Hitting
Burhan Tahir (.308/.341/.484) is one of a range of previous platoon-ers who will be unleashed on both hands of pitchers, and he’s a solid middle-of-the-lineup contributor. 3B Jeremy Pickens (.246/.304/.423) is another useful bat, and Banger Dan (.258/.302/.413) – despite a horrendous 2052 – can be expected to contribute more this time out.
Spine Defence
Jesus Rodriguez is a terrific catcher, Zimmer-quality behind the plate and a good bat against righties. Frédérick Brisset is equally gifted in the field at CF, and his bat can hold its own also. Dong-Po Thum at second base is the real deal, a quality OBP machine with fine defence in the middle-infield. Evan Walburn, however might be the worst defensive shortstop in the division league history of the Brewster entire universe.
Pitching
The rotation is extremely solid, and the front end of this rotation – although no Nebraska winner candidates – is good enough to compete. To pick out one, Sergio Herrera (4-2, 2.94) has transitioned from bullpen arm to starter, and has real all-star upside.
To pick out another, batters facing Reece Newsome (12-6, 3.67 in AAA Indianapolis) will either hit him hard or not all (hint: it’s likely to be the former).
Bullpen:
“Crash Test” Chaney (5-8, 3.77) is the lights out arm here. Lefty setup guy Byron Ratcliffe (3-4, 2.88) is one of the best southpaw relievers in the game, and his right-handed partner Gerard Rogers (5-9, 4.77) will be looking to bounce back after a down year.
Will the Nine rebound to the playoffs are missing for only the second time in 24 seasons? On balance, this pundit thinks not, but respectability and a .500 record are likely achievable goals. Well, once someone tears Walburn’s ACL and puts us all out of our misery.
Montreal Blazers (2052-): Playoffs 2052, 2054 (2-6)
Sao Paulo Pilots (2051-2): Playoffs 2051 (0-5)

Wondering if @Trebro forgot to switch positions for Walburn and Thum. Ouch.

Re: 2053 Yellow Springs Nine Preview
This was a great perspective on the club, thank you. I agree the team is going to hover around 500 and either be about 5-10 wins below it or maybe 2-5 wins above it.
And Walburn was..an idea. Not a great one, LOL.
Lastly, I'm not a big platoon guy by trade. But we'll see if the platoon-happy Brewster changes my thinking a bit.
