Your 2047 Mumbai Metro Stars

2047 Mumbai Metro Stars
The reigning 2046 UMEBA champions have decided to run it back with just about the same cast and crew, making a few small adjustments to the roster, but no major shake ups. After all, if what works isn't broken, there's no reason to go looking for a fix.

Starting Pitching

The Metro Stars have been testing out a 6 man rotation during spring training, presumably to figure out the back end of their starting rotation. At the top of the rotation are its two stars, Ronald Eglinton and Jose Lima, who will again be leaned on to carry the rotation. For the 3rd starting spot, it would seem the newly signed Guillermo Sanchez will be fighting with returning #3 starter Gennady Zachinsky to see who will take the bump after the two stars. Mumbai must be hoping to a return to form for Sanchez, who had quite the uncharacteristic down year last year in the BBA, after averaging 3 WAR per season for the first 4 full years at the BBA level. Leaving the BBA for the UMEBA could be what rights the ship for Sanchez. Who ever loses that battle will probably be the #4 starter, leaving Stephen Clulow and Santiago Perez fighting over who gets to be the worst starter of the rotation.

Bullpen

Behind their starters, the Metro Stars have a good to great group of relief pitchers, led by dominant reliever Knox Sked. Sked led all of the UMEBA in saves and averaged nearly a strike out per inning. He is supported by two strong setup arms in Jerry GrenfellPeter Dickerson. Grenfell and Dickerson will be leaned on heavily in tough situations, especially after they lost Curt Phillips for the season to a torn UCL. They will have to hope that the rest of the guys in their bullpen will be able to be just above competent, so as to not lose leads that the offense and their starting pitchers provide them with.

Infield

The Metro Stars infield, offensively, is the best infield in the entirety of the UMEBA. With Dan Clapper behind the plate, Carlos Reyes manning first base, William Drew and Matthew Hewat sharing double play duty and Sancho Castillo holding down the hot corner, there isn't a single wet noodle being swung. If Reyes is able to maintain his power gains from 2046, he will add to the trio of 30+ home run hitters the team have, and justifying a decision to start him at 1B. Drew is proof positive that leaving the BBA for UMEBA can be a boon for your offensive stats, setting career highs in hits, double, homers, walks, OBP, SLG, OPS and WAR. Hewat's bat is the worst of all the infielders, but he makes up for it by being one of the best middle infield defenders in the entire league.

And then there was Castillo. A man who, upon leaving the BBA, has established himself as one of the best players in the league at getting on base, with a .386 career OBP, .322 career batting average and 14.9 career WAR in his 3 seasons in the UMEBA. As a 3B in the UMEBA, Castillo is in a class of his own on offense, ranking amongst ALL batters in the top 5 of batting average, OBP, hits and triples in 2046. There's no reason to expect anything different from this star player in 2047.

Outfield

If you could use one word to describe this group, it would be WOW. The Metro Stars outfield joins its infield as the best offensive group in the entirety of the league. All three starting outfielders hit 33 or more homers. A fourth hit 13. A fifth hit them at a pace of 15 homers per 600 plate appearances. Opposing pitchers tremble when they see Frank Mahaffey, Weaver Ripley, Luis Gonzalez and company step into the batter's box. Ripley finished 2nd in the league in homers in 2046 with 50, Mahaffey tied for 4th with 47 and Gonzalez hit 33, tied for 9th. Getting 130 homer runs out of your starting outfield is a very good way to build an offense. Keiran Filby and Juan Hernandez add depth that allows for the outfielders to stay fresh, rotating through multiple outfield positions, designated hitter and taking days off.

Prospects

On top of being the reigning champs and having the best offense in the entire league, the Metro Stars also have a minor league system bursting at the seams with above average to amazing starters and shortstops.

Socrates Kazantziakis, Geaney Fey and Bodil Sellevold are all extremely talented shortstops who also happen to be top 50 prospects. Fey is the oldest and most talented of the group of three, but Kazantziakis is a phenomenal defender and Sellevold is a very good all around middle infielder. If anything were to happen to Heway or the backend of the rotation or bullpen do not hold up, one of these three guys could easily find themselves on a bus out of Mumbai, as the big league roster improves itself.

As for minor league pitching, the Metro Stars have a lot of it....and a lot of it is great. Peter Ramsay is ranked as the 2nd best pitching prospect in all of UMEBA and is a guy who will most likely see time at the big league level this year. His projections are off the charts, as a guy with 4 above average pitches, an amazing ability to keep the ball in the ballpark and an above average bat for a pitcher. Norm Collyer and Tak-Keung Liao are two other top 20 prospect starters, with Liao also having the opportunity to see big league time this year, as he is at the AAA level. So, if disaster strikes the rotation, the minor league SP depth can help to sustain or even improve the production at the big league level.

Season Predictions

Is another title within reach for Mumbai? Absolutely. They return 6 players who had 4 or more WAR in 2046, the highest amongst all teams in UMEBA (two teams had 4 players, no others had more than 2). They have the best offense in the entire league, two very good starters at the top of their rotation, one of the best closers in the league and a deep farm system with which to help improve the big league club via call ups or trades.

Mumbai should once again see themselves finishing atop the Bancroft league and will have the best odds to repeat as UMEBA champions, earning a third consecutive championship ring.

We’re not using a 6 man rotation. I like to run it in spring training to lessen the usage of my rotation guys.

Yeah, that's why I tossed in the line about trying to figure out your back end of rotation guys. Figured it would let you decide who your #4 and #5 guys are and then the 6th guy hits the bullpen. I had thought about trying it out, but never put it in during a sim.

Unfortunately, unless a team performs well above their talent OR Mumbai suffers the greatest injury stretch in the history of the BBA or UMEBA, it probably is a 3 peat. Extremely talented team.

I second this and wish to take it to a vote. Relocate Mumbai to the states and move them up to the BBA :D :D
