2035 Yellow Springs Preview

Post by bigmike13 » Sun Jun 10, 2018 7:26 pm

No Sleep Till Landis

Yellow Springs has made an alteration to the old Beastie Boys song "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" for their 2035 mantra. The Nine have made their way to the BBA playoffs in 8 of the last nine years and have become one of the premier BBA clubs. This club has boasted some of the best pitching staffs, and best lineups in that span and stacked up a list of accolades as far as the eye can see. Their is one trophy missing from their case however, and it still remains as the most important of them all, that of the Landis Memorial Champion. Let's see if 2035 can change that.

Additions: LF Jorge Rodriguez
Losses: SS J.J. McQuade, CF Dave Molina, 2B Tony Loftis

Starting Lineup

C: The backstop will once again be manned by former 2032 Gilstrom Newcomer of the Year Runner Up Aaron Stone. Stone had a great 2034 season after having a less than stellar 2033. Stone actually won Comeback Player of the year last year in recognition of great 2034. Stone blasted 28 HR's and drove in 71 RBI's to go with his .271 BA. His only weak spot is a tendency to be a bit of a free swinger as evident by his 142 K's in 502 AB's but I believe YS can live with it. There is every reason to believe that Stone will repeat, or at least come very close, to 2034 and continue to be a valuable cog in the Nine machine.

1B: There is this guy manning 1B, maybe you've heard of him, Lucas McNeil. He is only a 5 time All Star, 2 time Playoff MVP, and the 2033 Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award, 2033 Charles Puckett Golden Bat Award and something called the 2033 Sawyer Silk Silver Slugger trophy. Nothing worth mentioning, move along. Dave Brake will be back as the backup 1B.

2B: Good Lord, where are they growing these guys. 2 Time All Star Angel De Castillo suits up again at 2B. A great contact hitter and solid defender, De Castillo will hit wherever he is needed in the lineup, and when he does you can expect another .285 BA, 27 HR, 98 RBI type of season.

SS: Shortstop is where there will be some questions for the first time in 6 seasons as the Nine decided to roll the dice and let starting SS, J.J. McQuade test the Free Agent waters hoping that no one would agree to his substantial contract demands. Well that gamble didn't pay off as McQuade signed on with the expansion Boise Spuds for a whopping 6 yr, $84 million dollar deal. The Nine currently have two guys in camp auditioning for the starting gig in 2035 in 21 Yr Old Miguel Padilla and 22 yr old Juaquin Torres. Padilla is the odds on favorite since he performed very well in spot duty for the Nine in 2034 batting .297 with 12 RBI's and 13 Runs Scored in 102 AB's. Padilla is also a very skilled defender so unless Torres dazzles, or the Nine go outside the organization I wold give the nod to Padilla.

3B: After a part time role in 2034, Rob Thomas looks to take on the full time gig in 2035. An average glove at the hot corner, the 22 yr old Thomas looks like he will hit enough to not be a liability at the dish. He slugged 15 HR's with a .254 BA in 334 At bats last year and should maintain that level of production.

OF: Looking to make an upgrade in their outfield mix the Nine went out and Signed Jorge "I'm and On Base Machine with the Speed of The Flash" Rodriguez to take over in LF. An absolute beast for the San Antonio Outlaws the last couple season, he should be a fantastic addition for YS. Added to the mix of CF Carlos Garcia and RF Victor Guerra makes for a quality outfield. Garcia is by far the best defender but that may not make that big of a difference in the long run.

Starting Rotation

The Nine currently have 4 solid arms in their rotation and are looking for the fifth from a bevy of options.

16 Game Winner Jose Chavez will act as Ace for the staff again in2035 and is an excellent option at the top of the rotation. Another 16 game winner in Lawrence LaLoosh, who could be the Ace on many staffs falls in at #2. Gerardo Fajardo came over last year in a trade with Huntsville and made Six starts for the Nine before tearing the meniscus in his knee and going on the shelf for 5 months. Fajardo, if healthy, should be a very good option in the 3 hole. 29 yr old Tim Oliver is currently sitting at #4 and has probably the best Stuff on the staff, but with all power pithcers is quite erratic with his command. Some names trying out for the 5th spot are Luuk Van Den Hoek, Denis Combe, Alfredo Martinez.

Bullpen:

The Nine have Closer #1 in Miguel Macias and Closer #2 Felix Alvarado anchoring their pen. Either option would be a solid Closer with the other being a strong Setup man.
Lefty Jose Souza is another solid pen arm that will be counted on in tight games.

The rest of the pen has a ton of players trying to maintain or win spots for 2035. Jose Valenzuela, Ryan Rose, Momcilo Djuretic, Tristan Alfama, Jesus Hernandez, Glenn Avery, Jerry Ivory, Bill Reyes, Lorenzo Pena and many, many more.

2035 Prediction
Over the last 4 years, the Yellow Springs Nine have won 100, 95, 107 and 98 respectively and will definitely be among the top teams in all of BBA again in 2035. This team has the talent and experience to finally add that ever elusive Landis Trophy to their trophy case.

97-65, First Place in FL Heartland Division.
