Final NACBA Season 3 Newsletter

Post by LambeauLeap » Thu Aug 04, 2011 12:47 pm

NACBA Newsletter: Week 14/15:

Editor-in-Chief/ Secretary: Nick Spitulski
Assistant Editor: Greg Willis
Senior Writer: Glen Willis

Majors Week in Review:
The Playoff Hunt:
Eastern Conference:
Team W L GB Last 10
Y-Marquette 113 37 --- 7-3
Jacksonville 91 59 --- 6-4

Wild Cards:
Z-Mobile 103 47 --- 7-3
Carolina 88 62 --- 7-3
London 79 71 9 4-6

Mathematically eliminated: Harlem, Key Largo, Trenton, Buffalo,
Louisville, Memphis, Birmingham.

The Eastern Conference looks set for the playoffs, as it would take
quite a week by London and a horrible week by Carolina to change
things around. The Monarchs have played themselves out of a playoff
spot, going 12-18 over their past 30 games. Good luck next season for
all those teams whose seasons will end this week!!

Western Conference:
Team W L GB Last 10
Y-Las Vegas 94 56 --- 4-6
New Orleans 91 59 --- 7-3

Wild Cards:
Long Beach 90 60 --- 5-5
Denver 85 65 --- 6-4
Vancouver 79 71 6 5-5
Edmonton 77 73 8 6-4
Calgary 73 77 12 6-4
San Jose 73 77 12 7-3

X-Clinched division
Y-Clinched playoff berth
Z-Clinched wild card

Mathematically Eliminated: San Antonio, Phoenix, Omaha, Mexico City

Vancouver is really the only serious threat left to Denver, which had
better make sure it wins a lot of games this week. Edmonton will,
like London, be hard-pressed to make up 8 games in a week, to say the
least. Calgary and San Jose are just barely in. That will probably
change after the first few games this week. Congrats to all the teams
that hung in there all season long, and good luck to all next season!

Minors Week in Review:
The Playoff Hunt:
Eastern Conference:
Atlantic:
Team W L GB Last 10
Ybor City 88 62 --- 6-4
Huntsville 80 70 8 6-4
Queens 77 73 11 5-5

Central Division:
Columbus 93 57 --- 5-5
Yakima 86 64 7 5-5

Mathematically Eliminated: HoHoKus, Key West, Wales, Portland, Bel
Air, Copenhagen, Washington

It would appear that Ybor City and Columbus have wrapped up their
respective divisions, but there still may be hope for the Yaks and
Huntsville. Queens needs a miracle to get to the postseason.

Western Conference:
Unnamed Division:
Team W L GB Last 10
Valencia 89 61 --- 5-5
Melbourne 84 66 5 6-4
Rep. Texas 83 67 6 6-4

Pacific Division:
X-Ashland 100 50 --- 8-2

X-Clinched division

Mathematically Eliminated: Reykjavik, Ventura, Corpus Christi, Aspen,
Mackinac, Santa Fe, Sudbury, Compton.

The Unnamed Division could potentially come down to the wire, as all
3 teams are well-balanced and any one could have a breakout week. The
Slow Riders have clinched the division for the 2nd season in a row,
dating back to Medicine Hat times. The most successful team in NACBA
Minor League history is looking to go out with a big bang.

Governing Board Reports:
Commissioner: Matt Rechtenwald:
-I guess this is the Commissioner's Official Report for the week.....

To all owners, associates, Governing Board members:

If you are required to send in a submission to the newsletter, whether
it be a required associate article, a required Governing Board report,
or another submission that you have committed to, these must be in by
Monday.

I am personally disappointed by the lack of motivation of late on
things like this that need to be done. With new associates coming in
in bunches now, is this the kind of example we want to set? I am sure
we can do better than this.

Vice-Commissioner: Jason Kloes:

Here is the up-to-date demerit Points...

Jason

Adam Bucane - 4 (Louisville)
Barry O' Conner - 2 (Trenton)
A.J Ketner - 2 (Memphis)
Dave Luce - 2 (Buffalo)
Eric Moyer - 2 (Mexico city)
Sean Marko - 2 (Phoenix)
Greg Willis - 2 (Carolina)

Eastern Conference President: A.J. Ketner:

Hello to all of you Eastern Conference Managers and congratulations on
being part of the best conference in the NACBA. Congrats to Marquette
and Mobile on being the first 2 teams in the NACBA to break 100 wins
this year. The playoffs in the Eastern Conference should be very
exciting. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs and bring home the
championship for the Eastern Conference. If anyone in the conference
has any questions or comments, e-mail them to me and I will try to
get you a prompt response.

Thanks

Western Conference President: Sean Marko:

Weelllll hello all Westerners.

Prez here, telling you that somehow my computer has miraculously fixed
itself (no, really) and it's working better than ever, for some
reason.

Well, that's just in time to tell you that there are no significant
things to report this week, but I am pleased to see all the trading
taking place at the deadline!! We are all really serious in this. See
ya.

Secretary: Nick Spitulski:

Just a few things regarding the Newsletter and the Weekly
Meetings.....
First of all, the Newsletter will now be out on Tuesday mornings.
That means you must get your articles in to me by Monday evenings at
7 CST, so that they can be put in the newsletter that week and I have
enough time to get the Newsletter proofread and finished. All
associates are required to write for the newsletter. If I do not
receive articles from you at the specified time, you will be notified
by 1 CST on Tuesday that you have received a demerit. Please don't
let this happen. Also, whenever I come up with an idea for the
newsletter that I can't write personally, I will be assigning
articles to members who I feel would be well-suited for the job. If
you cannot write, please let me know so that I can assign it to
someone else. I would like to be able to give those who refuse 2 or
more consecutive times a few demerits, but we'll have to see about
this. Usually these will not be too long, so don't worry about not
having time, etc. Besides, you need to participate in the league some
time............
As for the Weekly Meetings, they will be held on Thursday, Saturday,
and Sunday at 8 CST, 8 CST, and 1 CST, respectively. The Thursday
meetings will begin on October 23, and there will be no meetings next
weekend, as I will not be available that weekend. Otherwise, expect a
'List of Meeting Topics' e-mail on Wednesday evenings or Thursday
mornings. I encourage all members, and especially associates, to
attend at least one of these each week. That is it for now. If I
forgot anything, you'll hear about it. Thank you.

Treasurer: Jason Russell:
-the following is Russell's FA List, reproduced from e-mail (I
apologize if this is not easy to read. I have a horrible e-mail
program that formats nothing.......)

I have had several FA type requests over the last couple of days, so
I'm sending you all a complete list of this season's FA. Have fun.

1. CONVERSION TEAMS - I NEED THEM NOW! Start sendin' them in!

2. Utilities - I got no volunteers for putting together a utilities
list, so I did it myself and put it out via email. A FPS guru, Rudy
Kamman, has put on his list of to-dos a utility to have us import
lineups from you if you use a correct form. He is presently working
on a utility to have us keep track of all-time record holders and
leaders in categories.

3. MY PIX FOR THE CHAMPIONSIP - Jacksonville and Marquette take the
divisions in the Eastern conference, with Carolina and Mobile as the
wildcards. Marquette will beat Carolina, and Mobile will beat
Jacksonville....Mobile will then BEAT Marquette for the Eastern
Conference Championship.
Las Vegas and New Orleans will take the divisions in the west, with
Denver and Long Beach as the wildcards. Vegas will beat Denver, and
N.Orleans will fall to Long Beach....Vegas will then beat Long Beach
to win the western conference.
Mobile and L.V. will then meet in the championship, with LV taking it
in 6 games.

****All-Time Records Falling Like Leaves!

That's right, many of the NACBA's most treasured records are about to
fall this season. Three of these are about to be broken, or have
already been broken, by Marquette's Damian Renius. Renius has already
smashed the record for hits in a season (previously 258 by Zachary
Johnson of Marquette in WCBA 3) with an astonishing 288 hits going
into the final week. He has all but clinched the record for batting
average (previously held by himself in NACBA 1 with Honolulu, .388)
with his current .427 average, and also the record for On-Base Average
(previously held by Steve Clockmer for Las Vegas in WCBA 2, .462) with
a .485 OBA. With these numbers, and his teams' unbelievable record
this season, it's amazing Renius hasn't recieved more consideration
for the Walter Browne Award this season.

The other positive records that has an outside chance of being broken
is the ERA Crown (held by Steve Nebraska for Long Beach in NACBA 2).
Nebraska himself is looking to break his own record, currently at a
1.95 mark with one week to go. Knowing Nebraska, and given his success
with Mobile thuis far, it is within reach.

On the other side of the coin, some players have reason to hide their
heads in shame. Lionel Joseph of the Long Beach Surfers has broken his
previous record of 59 caught stealings, set last year, with 62 thus
far this year.

Howard Sallio of the Birmingham Barons has been the epitome of the
Barons team this year, and is closing in on a record that will be
befitting to the whole franchise, the record for losses in a season.
Gil Gamesh previously held the record with 21 for Compton in WCBA 4,
but Sallio goes into the last week with an amazingly pitiful 1-20
record, and will almost surely break the mark, given he likely has two
starts remaining, at least.

Denver's rookie pitcher Tyrone Hombre could possibly break the record
for most home runs allowed in a season. Penalized by his early season
troubles in Louisville's homer friendly stadium, he currently has
given up 30 dingers this year. The record is held by 4 different
pitchers who have allowed 33 homer runs this season.

****What in the hell????-- The biggest dissappointments of Season 3!

Several players in the NACBA, such as Vancouver C Maxwell Weiss, are
having breakout seasons. Several others are having seasons to forget.
Here is my list of the five most disappointing players in the league
this season.

5. Jack Maverick, 2B, Key Largo/Harlem: Maverick was expected to be
one of the better rookies this season. The skills are there, the
numbers aren't. Most alarming of his line is his terrible 15 BB/176 SO
ratio. Perhaps next year in FPS Maverick will begin to perform to
potential.

4. Taz Rasmussen, C/OF, Louisville/Denver: Rasmussen had put together
two solid seasons in which he appeared to be breaking out as one of
the league stop catchers. This season was a major step backward. He
dug himself a hole in Louisville, and given a chance to get out in
Denver, hasn't produced. .214, 14 HR, 54 RBI was not what was expected
of the Taz.

3. Boris Nimsgetr, P, Memphis. Nimsgetr is the posterboy for Memphis'
failed season. Expectations were high for both the team and Boris, and
Nimsgetr must bear the bulk of the responsibility. Counted on as the
staff ace, he has struggled to 5-19, 5.60, 227H in 175 IP, 20 HR
allowed.

2. Micheal Kinnish, IF/OF, Jacksonville. Kinnish hasn't had a terrible
season, but by his standards a huge disappointment. Counted on to fill
the void of Ridgway and later Roberts, Kinnish perhaps put too much
pressure on himself and has struggled to .237, 13, 73, 32 SB.
Acceptable numbers, but not for a franchise player. Had he performed
to potential, the Monarchs wouldn't be watching over their shoulder
for the Coastals.

1. Ace Holder, P, Phoenix. At the beginning of the season, if you
would have told me the Talons would be in last place in the NACBA
Pacific Division, I would have suggested you for random drug testing.
Holder is the major reason. He should perennially be one of the
league's top starters, along with the likes of Nebraska and Beckmeyer.
Instead, he struggled to 3-6, 5.86, to go along with time in the
bullpen, and time in Ashland.

****Top Five Expansion Hopefuls!!

The expansion draft unprotected lists are about to be released, and
here's a preview of my top five available players.

5. Jon McNecirty, 3B/2B, Jacksonville: McNecirty is a solid hitter
with good power who can play two positions. He hasn't gotten a chance
to play everyday in the last who knows how many years, but this man
has shown in limited time that he can hit. A solid choice for a number
#3 hitter.

4. Henry McKey, OF, Marquette: Another player who just needs a chance
to play. He is the best leadoff hitter available. Need to start your
expansion team with a spark? Draft McKey!

3. T.J. Ceres, P, New Orleans: Looked upon in the ranks of Crawdads
prospects Thomas Money (now with Marquette) and Lewis Carlton last
season, his stock fell with his poor cup of coffee with the 'Dads last
season. However, since being recalled last week, he has shown the
ability he was touted with. Great young SP to build a staff around.

2. Royce Lumpkin, P, Calgary: Another pitcher whose career looked to
be headed for stardom two season ago with Salt Lake (now London), he
slumped last year and has been average this year with Calgary. Still
has all the tools to be a solid #1 or #2 starter. Perhaps back in Salt
Lake??

1. Clyde Dillon, RP, New Orleans: Long considered to be one of the top
closers in the league, Dillon got off to a slow start this season and
fell out of favor with NO Owner Erik Bjornstad. He can still be a top
closer in the league, as evidenved from his strong showing since being
recalled from AAA Corpus Christi.

Confront the Comish: by Gabe Koch:

Due to the great fun we had with it last week I've decided to make the
interview with the commissioner a weekly column.

GK: Hello Mr. Commishioner how are you doing today?

MR: I'm doing really well, thank you.

GK: The focal point of our discussion today is going to be on our
conversion to FPS '98. First of all why did you decide to go with FPS
'98 and what are the major advantages over Earl Weaver or any other
computer generated baseball game?

MR: FPS '98 gives us more realism, and more of the things we would
like to have in a simulator. It will take things we have been doing by
hand, such as free agency, retirees, and injuries, and do them
automatically for us. Most importantly is the aging factor, and more
detailed statistical measure of players. These will all help to make
the league better. Granted, it does have its downfalls, such as lack
of stadium creation or manager creation, but those are things we will
deal with. Weather will also now be a factor....

GK:What kind of new stats will we be offered that weren't included in
previous seasons?

MR: Some of the more interesting stats are ones that will be used in
time....such as DAY/NIGHT stats, HOME/AWAY, and MONTHLY stats...not to
mention the other factors I stated above...

GK: Do you think the conversion will come along on time or do you
forsee any snags? I'm figuring that this takes alot of work
transferring a whole league into another system?

MR: I am hoping for the conversion to hit our target date, but Brad
and I need to see more progress on the part of the converters. With
the influx of new associates we have more willing parties to help out,
so if anyone feels they will not make the deadlien they need to speak
up now. I could see a delay happening, and if one does, it's not the
end of the world. We would rather take an extra couple of weeks to do
this right than have problems down the road.

GK: There has been alot of discussion about the demise of the minor
leagues. Do you think this is necessary and will it be possible to
start them up again in the future if they must be disbanded at this
time?

MR: We love having the minor leagues, I think that is one of the
features that helps to set us apart from other leagues. At this time,
I am formulating a proposal that may save the minors. It will be
proposed in conjunction with the revised associate duties.....I hope
it will work out, but there are no guarantees.

GK: Once again thank you for your time, Matt.

MR: You're welcome......remember, if you have questions for Confront
the Commish, please submit them to Gabe Koch
(kochgb10@gbvaxa.uwgb.edu). See you next week!

New Associate Member Biography

My name is Christopher McMains and I am the new associate member
assisting the Pheonix Tallons. I am a twenty-one year old student at
the California State University at Chico. It has been known as one of
the biggest party schools in the nation, a fact which I can not argue
against. Chico is located about 100 miles north of Sacramento. I am
majoring in Accounting with a minor in Computer Science. I moved from
my parent's home in Downey which is just south of Los Angeles.

Aside from baseball I keep active with a few other sports. I am the
President of the school's rugby club. Our team plays in what is bar
none the toughest league in the nation. Despite the competition we
still manage to do well. I am also a member of intramural flag
football and dodge ball championship teams. Both of those games
become amazingly complicated and dangerous now that all participants
are grown up.

Getting back to baseball, I have been playing in computer leagues
since I was ten. I can still remember the first time I sat down in
front of my Apple ][e and booted MicoLeague Baseball. We had to score
games by hand and managed to finish five or six short seasons. A few
years later we moved to Earl Weaver. Finally, after an upgrade to a
PC we went to the Tony LaRussa games. Recently, I have been in Front
Page Sports and Diamond Mind Baseball leagues.

I grew up in the 80's as a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Willie
McGee, though not the most handsome man nor the ugliest (ie Otis
Nixon), is my favorite player. I think that every one of my computer
league teams has been modeled after those speedy Redbirds. My teams
always show how valuable it is to have team speed, defense and a solid
bullpen.

I eat, drink and sleep baseball especially now during the playoffs and
maybe even more at spring training. I have a library of nearly 150
baseball books, fourteen different baseball movies on tape and an
astronomical number of baseball cards, autographed balls, bats, etc.
I pride myself on being sort of a walking encyclopedia of baseball
statistics.

I can't wait to get started with this league. Its a real change to
get involved with an internet league with this kind of participation.
Its refreshing to see people as involved in baseball fantasy as
myself. To end this I'll leave you with a quote for the next time
someone takes over the TV to watch the Saints and Bears instead of the
Indians vs. Yankees.

"Baseball, more than any other sport, is enjoyed by the knowledgeable.
The pleasures it gives to fans are proportional to the fans' sense of
history. Its beauties are visible to the trained eye, which is the
result of a long apprenticeship in appreciation."

London Signs New Assistant to Minor League

AP (London)-The London Bishops have announced that they will sign
Colonel Bloom to help run the AAA ballclub that the team has in Wales.
Colonel Bloom(26) has been working at a Human Resources firm in Devon,
Pennsylvania.
Rumor has surfaced that Bloom is quietly sitting on a small fortune
that he plans to use in the major purchase of a Major League
franchise. When asked about the rumor, Bloom had this to say:"I
don't want to speculate on that right now, If the opportunity to
either start an expansion club or to purchase a team arose, I
certainly would not rule it out." "The only concern I have at this
point in time, is to get this ballclub's talent to reach it's
potential-and if that has already happened I really have my work cut
out for me." Bloom is an avid skier, and has also been known to take
off for weekends at a time to pursue his love for Penn State
football. A Penn State graduate, Bloom's interest in sports has deep
roots. When asked who he thinks will win the NACBA championship,
Bloom stated that he though that Marquette has the best chance.
"When you can be a team that no one really gave a chance, and go out
and win that number of ballgames, you know you have accomplished
something." The only question we ask is this: What exactly is it that
Bloom plans to accomplish? Only time will tell.

SAVE THE MINORS

With the coming of FA '98 comes alot of improvements, however there is
one travesty which I feel can not be allowed or at least for a long
duration of time. The minor leagues are coming to an end. In my
opinion this will lesson the league in 2 ways if we are looking to
keep new people interested in joining the league and remaining once
they have joined.

First of all when an associate joins the league his prime
resposibility was to run the minor league franchise of the owner he
was associated with. Now without the minors all associates really have
to do is contribute to the newsletter. This is going to alienate alot
of new members and discourage them from remaining in the league.

The second thing the minors do is give new members an understanding of
the league. Running a minor league team gets them more involved and
helps them to understand what is needed to run a team in the NACBA so
that when they do get a team of their own they are much more
experienced. Also this lack of involvement created by not having
minors makes it much more difficult to fullfill an associates 2nd duty
of writing for the newsletter because he doesn't get as good of an
understanding of what's going on around the league and therefore is
less informed about what to write about.

So this is a plea from me to the heads of the NACBA-- please save the
minors.

On a lighter note, congradulations to the Cleveland Indians in
completing their first step towards a MLB Championship in thier
divisional series win over the World Champion New York Yankees.

Sentinels Notes: by Steve Muller

Construction begins on the new Sentinel Palace, future home of the
Washington Sentinels. As the foundation is being laid for this
beautiful facility modeled after the ballpark former known as Jack
Murphy Stadium, the foundation of this ball club remains uncertain.
Certainly NACBA league baseball is coming to Washington, but it may
not be pretty in the early years. Remember the early days of the
expansion Mets?

Baseball fans in Washington may have visions of Burke or Wickendon
dancing in their heads, but future owner of the Sentinels, Steve
Muller, tries to dispel these myths and paint a more realistic path
for his future ball club. "I'd love to draft a franchise player like
Burke or Wickendon, but that's just not going to happen. We're
picking somewhere in the middle of the draft which means these guys
will be long gone. Even are most optimistic projections would have us
landing a Merrick or Udeschini. Either of these guys would likely
need a year of experience in the minors before being ready for the
'bigs'. I don't think we can count on anyone from the draft making an
impact on the major league level next year, not for the Sentinels at
least."

So what about the expansion draft? Not likely according to Muller,
"Well I can't see us getting any really talented players in the
expansion draft. These are really everybody's leftovers. Sure, a lot
of these guys will be playing for us next year, even starting, but
there no Janski's out there." Other owners agree, Eric Moyer of
Mexico City explained, "Although there could be a few gems out there,
especially with the style of play changing next year, most of these
guys are trash?.role players at the very best."

This really leaves only one talent source for Washington next year.
Muller continues, "With not a lot of promise from expansion or college
draft, we've really only one choice. We're going to hit the free
agent market real hard. We don't have a lot of big salaries to worry
about and we want to be competitive next year. I'm not saying
championship, but there is no reason we can't be a real good team next
year. I think if we can sign of couple of good hitter and a few
strong pitchers, we'll be all right."

Other may disagree with this strategy, but it promises to make the
free agent signing period later this month very interesting. Whether
Washington can build a winning team next year is another issue. Many
disagree, "Its going to take three to five years before these
expansion teams are winners, you can count on that!" remarked one
unnamed NACBA GM. Either way the people of Washington are looking
forward to baseball in their town.

Opnions and Polls
by Greg Willis

Well, we introduce this section of the newsletter with a couple of
good questions. The results of these polls should provide insight
into the collective ideas and opinions held by the owners and
associates of this league. In the first week, bias has already become
very noticeable in the voting. I'm not blaming anyone. I voted for my
guy. I had better; I gave up Nebraska to get him. Nevertheless, I will
take whatever measures I can to filter the bias out of the results.
Thanks, to everyone who voted.

Q: IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONLY ONE, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE:

A) A WORLD SERIES TITLE BY YOUR FAVORITE TEAM

******************************** 75%

B) A NACBA CHAMPIONSHIP

******** 25%

Where's the loyalty? Where's the pride? Most owners revealed that
their favorite major league team takes precedence over their own NACBA
team. Some owners did choose their NACBA team citing that and NACBA
title would be an accomplishment that they achieved themselves and
that it would be more rewarding than watching someone else win a title
as a spectator. It is intersting that better than half of the owners
choosing a MLB title mentioned teams that have not appeared in the
post season at any time in the least ten years. In contrast, better
than half of those choosing the NACBA title as more covetous by-passed
a major league that has appeared in post-season in the last five
years.

Q: IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ANY PLAYER IN THE NACBA TO BE THE CORNERSTONE
OF YOUR ORGANIZATION, WHO WOULD THAT PLAYER BE?

PLAYER TOTAL VOTES

STEVE NEBRASKA ***** (5)
BOBBY RAYBURN *** (3)
KENARE SOBAH ** (2)
L. OVERSON * (1)
MAX WEISS * (1)
ELROY FUTON * (1)
F. LORENZEN * (1)

It looks like bias was the name of the game in this poll. Of the 14
votes cast, only 7 votes came from outside the organization. Steve
Nebraska is the clear winner here as all 5 of votes came from owners
of other teams. This does present a paradox though. If Nebraska is the
most respected player in the game, how can one explain why he has been
traded twice this season. Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that he
is not only the most respected player in the game-- he is the league's
most coveted player as well.

Max Weiss: MVP Frontrunner
by Glen Willis

There's no question that Max Weiss has been the best offensive
catcher in the NACBA this season. The Vancouver Mounties slugger
leads the league with 44 homeruns despite playing the game's most
demanding position, catcher. But its not just his power that has set
him apart, his overall performance as a hitter (.349 avg, 124 rbi)
has gained the attention of pitchers around the league. Mounties
pitcher and frequent battery-mate of Weiss, Pete Bucher, stated,
"He's definitely become one of the most talked about hitters in the
league, I'm glad the only pitching that I have to do to him is when
he's behind the plate." Bucher is not alone.
There's no question that he has put together a career year, a season
that will be talked about for a long time as potentially the
greatest offensive year by a catcher in the history of the NACBA.
There's no question that he's on the short list of potential MVP
winners for this season. The impact that he has had upon his team in
almost impossible to measure, despite the fact that the Mounties may
fall just short of qualifying for postseason play. "He's definitely an
MVP frontrunner," one franchise owner exclaims. Getting comments like
that from leaders with allegiance to other organizations is tough to
come by, but so are catchers with the combination of offensive
potential and steady defensive play that Weiss demonstrates.
The hot question surrounding Max Weiss is this: how long can he keep
this up? "Nobody knows," Weiss answers the question that doesn't
offend him in the slightest bit, "I know that when you have your
career year at 31, and your a catcher, that everyone is going to
wonder if you can ever duplicate it. I'm not real worried about that,
I'm more concerned with a shot at a NACBA title."
"But its not like I had never had a good season coming in to this
year. A lot of people make a big deal out of the fact that I was
released two years ago, but I don't believe that that was a result of
anyone giving up on me, it was purely a business decision. But that
doesn't mean it's not regretted," Weiss explains smiling.
Long Beach hurler Gil Gamesh said of Weiss, "I don't know why people

automatically assume he's going to stop doing the things next season
that he's been doing all year. I'm having my career year at 36 and no
one has said a word."
Whether or not Weiss does maintain his unbelievable level of
performance will remain to be seen. But one must assume that any owner
would enthusiastically pay his modest 3.1 million dollar salary to
find out. After all, as one recent banner hanging in Bender Stadium
put it, "It's not Weiss to bet against the Max."

Prez here, telling you that somehow my computer has miraculously fixed

Well, that's just in time to tell you that there are no significant

"Demerits". I liked it better when they were called "Evans".

In this league we could call them "Collins'" or "Cornels".

Just read through this again...wow, Max Weiss was pretty much the best offensive player I've ever had in my umpteen seasons of participating in Recteball. I wish we had a Max Weiss in Louisville right now...or in New Orleans in the GBC. Orlando Martinez is good, but not THAT good.
