nevermind , I looked it up.

Portland will lose anyone that is Rule 5 Eligible.
You really have nothing to lose. The expansion draft is a maximum of 45 rounds. You'll get to protect 40 of those players(maybe a little less depending on free agents signed). So the player you lose is extremely likely to be a throw away player.

Some of the guys drafted may not be great to put on 40-man rosters, though. So there's that.

But if you are afraid to lose them, then you would add them So it ensures that an expansion team won't lose a good player in the rule 7 unless they either have a historically awesome draft of make a bad 40 man omission.

Rule 5 eligibility is 5 years right? If so then some guys I draft won’t be rule 5 eligible anyway.

Either way I saw this as a very low risk move for Portland out of the gate. Harsnett isn’t a stud but could help an expansion team in certain regards if his salary isn’t bad.

Rule 5 is generally 5 years, but in actuality it is whatever OOTP says. I've had guys with as little as 2 years pro experience show up as Rule 5 eligible for some reason.

I love the Rule 6, so I feel like I SHOULD take someone but, yeah, hard pass.

Maybe I have lower standards. I look at this kind of like a Rule 5 pickup that only costs you 10 PPs and you don't have to keep the guy. Of course I"m also an expansion team now and need to be looking at guys differently initially.

I can see at least 1 or 2 more guys I'd take in Portland right now (David Hall would be a nice DH type for cheap)

Is this not like the Rule 5 where you can take multiple players? This is my first go around.

Per league constitution (great place to reference): "The UMEBA Player Rights Draft...consists of one round."

Yes it is just 1 round. I just don't mine taking flyers on guys like a Hall just in case. Maybe you luck up and get him for 500K and he's not a bad backup option. Maybe he goes for a fortune and I pass.

My big focus in the old rule 6 used to be trying to find guys who I could convert into Relievers through the Reliever Conversion. There don't seem to be many (if any) pitchers worth wasting the 10 PPs on this go around.

I was really close to picking Ramón Garza. Was thinking maybe if I put a good defense behind him and keep him away from lefty heavy lineups he'd be an ok #5. Then I went back and did some due diligence and came to the conclusion that all I have is #5 starters. So all he'd do is hold down one of my younger pitchers.

I have no shame and would make a pick(even in this weak class) if it filled role. I just couldn't find the right match. Most of the draft worthy players are COF/DH/1B and like a lot of other teams, I'm good in that area.

Now..... let's say someone wanted to draft a second player. I'd be game for drafting for them in exchange for one of my expansion picks back. ;)

Why not......

Portland takes Jayden Harsnett from Manama.

Popular player. I have 10 Points to spare. Maybe we get him for cheap.
