Yep. If someone bids Ghezzi too far, they'll have an expensive low-end starter/backup. Otherwise, I'll have a cheap one. :) If you've seen YS's catching situation, it's hard to see it getting much worse with the inclusion of Ghezzi. :)
Well you won't have to worry about Tucson at least, haven't seen the numbers yet but I imagine we're still in the red.

I agree with most of your assertion, Ted. Altabani, Silva and Ghezzi could feasibly be mediocre RH'd platoons. I'd wager a guess that in the former two's cases you could have probably got their ilk in the Rule 5 instead of the Rule 6, though. Glas might be a long reliever, but he's another type of talent that probably would've been available in the Rule 5. Guys like Becker and Wijngaard are not only available in the Rule 5, but will probably go undrafted (or promptly returned) in it.

DuBois, though, looks like a borderline all-star in the corner OF to me. He is Jose Perez with a tangibly lesser bat, but a much better glove. If he can manage to be a low negative ZR in CF (-2 or so) then he becomes even more valuable. I think if you were risk adverse to the Savage and Baca sweepstakes, DuBois seems like a sensible poaching target for a team bereft of talent.

Are there really guys available in the Rule 5 with 9 or 10 defensive ratings at 2B+3B+SS+LF as well as potential to put up a .300 OBP? If so, oops.

Disagree with Ghezzi being a "mediocre" platoon catcher. I think he's a really good platoon catcher, but not a starter.

Need matching decision from VAL by Sunday's sim.

Uh, yeah. I'll take that. Guess that will end the debate on Valencia in the field for at least the first month or two
