I don't like it but I'll take it... I may already have next years #1 overall sewn up also...

I need to tank.

I didn't need to tank to get some good picks, I was gifted with some natural losses......

Guess I should've lost more since we were stuck in the middle anyway.

Getting the #2 pick next year will be our lowest pick since 2011.
Yay, progress?

When will we know the cutoff numbers for compensation picks? I'll need to decide what to do with a few of my veterans and that decision hinges a lot on what the WAR numbers are for the compensation.

I believe Ben will issue them shortly.. I know he's working on the spreadsheet.

OK. I wasn't sure. I found last year's post to see what the threshhold was so I'll be assuming it will likely be close to that this season as well. I have 2 guys that'll be close to Type A.
Of course that creates my 2nd question, are players with Team Options eligible for FA compensation? Say I have a player who meets Type A status but has a team option for next season. Can I refuse the option in hopes he signs with another team in order for me to get an S1 draft pick?

You get compensation when you make a qualifying offer to a player and the player to be a free agent declines it so that he can hit the open market. If you decline an option YOU are making that decision instead of him and thus don't get any compensation.

No, they would not be eligible. Declined POs and unmet VOs are eligible, but not declined TOs.

You do NOT need to extend a QO to a player to potentially get compensation. It is 100% about the player's WAR relative to the defined thresholds in our league's system. As Tim said, Ben will be announcing those thresholds shortly now that the season is over.

I never noticed. Doesn't seem right that a team gets compensation when it intentionally lets someone go.

Agreed - you'd think you'd have to at least offer arbitration. But whatever.

It's designed to benefit teams that track only WAR on their players. So in effect, Kyle helping create a rule that benefits, well, Kyle.

An interesting accusation.
FWIW, the groundwork for the comp system was laid before I even joined the GB - and the person whom first suggested using WAR would probably surprise you.
Don't let that deter you from entertaining yourself, though.

WAR is listed in every single player profile under the WAR heading.
Not sure what you're talking about, Mr. $50 Million Payroll - how many high-profile free agents were you going to have at that total?

I actually like the WAR part of the system. I'm not an advanced stathead but ive been slowly picking up on it here and there. I like that part of the system as it is very rarely gonna make a mistake and give a comp pick for a turd like the old system often would. Im just weirded out that we don't actually have to make a qualifying offer anymore. Kinda seems like getting something for nothing. But the WAR part of the system seems fine. Its calculated the same way for all the teams so I don't see how Kyle would get an edge?

You misunderstand what I am saying. I don't expect to have any free agents that go away and create compensation. I have just noticed an abnormal percentage of Free Agents that earn compensation the past few seasons have been from Omaha. Now, that might be a fiction I have created from my relative disdain from the usage of "super stats", but that is my perception.
