Is He Still a Prospect?

September 16, 2058: Long Beach – For one night, Bikini Krill pitcher Mahmut Binark put it all together. The 6’3” 205 pound right hander took the hill against Long Beach tonight, and left it 93 pitches and 8.1 innings later having held the Surfers scoreless on only two hits and two walks. His teammates greeted him in the dugout like he might be a long-lost savior, which, given this team’s need for a big gun at the top of the rotation, he could well be.

The road has been long and choppy for the kid, though, and the world isn’t yet ready to anoint him the next coming of Hector Silva.

“His stuff should be better,” said Forever :Land Sports Network’s Misty Morgan after the game. “Only three strikeout, after all. Everyone says the curve and the change can be made stronger, you know? But if he can keep this kind of command up, the sky’s the limit.”

At 25 y ears old, they’ve been saying that kind of thing about Mahmut Binark for years. His development has been slow. His numbers through the minor tepid, though his AA and AAA stints looked at least promising. One can assume that he’ll get more special attention in the off-season, simply because, to be fair, the Bikini rotation is mostly held together with caulk and bazooka bubble gum. There is, as they say, a target-rich environment for him here on the Atoll. But he’s going to have to show his stuff, as they say. And the jury is most certainly still out.

But for this night.

This one night in Long Beach.

Mahmut Binark put on a helluva show.
