ORIGIN STORY
After pulverizing Pattersonville high school opponents for two seasons, Benji Amberman was drafted in #3 overall in the 2057 selection process, and assigned to the Ogdon Thunder Ducks Rookie Ball squad in hopes they would rake all year and begin to work filling in the gaps between Benji’s current skillset and the one that scouts salivated over.
The plan, you see, is that Benji Amberman will be a magical third baseman sitting at the top of the Krill’s order and throwing down .390 OBPs for years to come.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
Alas, in 2057 Benji took 240 plate appearances and dumped an ugly .216/.286/.310 slash line good for a 66 OPS+. It got so base, Benji was moved from the top of the order down to the bottom. Worse, their ratings didn’t move to any such degree as improvement was obvious. Yeah, not what the doctor ordered. It is fair to note, however, that Benji was only 16, and kids like that have a tendance to struggle. Some blame it on homesickness, other on coaching, and others still on nefarious intervention from the dark worlds. Who is to say, though? The only thing we know for sure is that 2058 sees Benji Amberman, arguably the team’s top prospect, will start 2058 in the same place as he appeared to start 2057.
WHAT'S TO COME
One does have some anticipation, though, as the club (know how important Benji’s development is), spent some of their off-season booty to send the youngster through an intense physical camp. Spring training insiders say Amberman had a better look about him, and that fingers were now officially crossed. Regardless, Amberman will start in Rookie ball in 2058, and the expectation is that they will stay there all year in hopes they can raise back up to that lead-off spot.
LONG TERM PROJECTION
It's way too early to get worried about the kid. There's a long way to go, though. He doesn't project to get to Bikini until maybe 2061 or 2062?
The upside here is that after one game of the season, Amberman is 2-4, with a double and an RBI.
