Alaniz Hired, “Effective Immediately”
August 23, 2057: Marshall Islands – Bikini General Manager Ron Collins stepped to the podium during a makeshift press conference today and announced that: “Pitching Coach Eduard Menosky made comments yesterday regarding the baseball team he was a coach of. Those comments were uncalled-for and inappropriate. While no one is happy with the current state of the team, I think everyone on the Atoll needs to be pulling in the same direction. Therefore, effective immediately, Eduard is no longer associated with the Bikini Krill.”
He then announced that Fernando Alaniz, longtime Portland Lumberjack and Vancouver Mountie coach, would be taking over the reins.
“I’ve spoken to several of the pitching staff directly,” Collins said. “I know this is abrupt, so I wanted them to understand that I’m fully behind each and every one of them, and that Fernando would be sitting down in the near term to discuss how we see the future here.”
The move comes at a time when many say the club is in some financial turmoil, and was made despite Menosky’s contract calling for two more seasons.
“Money wasn’t the issue here,” Collins said. “I spoke with Mr. Westmoreland, and he was fully on board.”
Alaniz's terms were not discussed, but team insiders say he's agreed to stay on with the team through 2059.
