Andrade, Bourges Appear Inattentive in Early Workout

February 25, 2057

Bikini Krill veterans Wilson Andrade and Theo Bourges made a brief splash of a headline together last November when they announces in tandem that neither would be waiving the No Trade clauses in their contracts. “We plan to play together next year,” Andrade said at the time. “And there’s really nothing the team can do to stop it, now, is there?”

Admittedly the team’s finances are more than a hot-mess, but it would appear that the pair have now decided to try that idea out for size, as baseball people around the team are whispering that each of them seem “a little slow” while taking early batting practice in the cage prior to the beginning of actual training events.

Bourges, a career .286 hitter, was laughing and chuckling as he had difficulty handling the pitching machine’s 89 MPH “fastball.” Andrade followed that up by at least making contact, “but the pop just wasn’t there,” said one observer. “Sounded like a pair of high schoolers in there. Mostly laughing and having a great time with general ineptitude.”

While it’s all fun and games right now, we’re hearing that the front office is now Officially Concerned. The team isn’t expected to complete, but Andrade and Bourges are expected to be professional about things and at least serve as fan ambassadors while putting a serious effort onto the field.

“We want something more than sales schmoozing,” our contact said. “If this keeps up, the club might be pressed into some kind of action.”

These two represent $28M of the team’s $80M payroll, so getting rid of them would obviously hurt. Cutting them could also break the community outreach the team has been presenting as advertisement. On the other hand, it’s sunk cost, and playing guys who are just mailing it in doesn’t help anyone.

Who knows what will happen, but we’re certain that all eyes are on the veterans as they round into camp.
