Chasing The Storm 2055-6 Other Minor Leaguers to Note

As we turn the calendar towards 2056 and remind ourselves that things almost certainly can't get worse for the Storm next season, it might be worth taking a moment to look at other minor league players that could play a role in Seattle's 2056 plans. We've already previously identified Seattle's top prospects and discussed when we think we might see them in the bigs. Today, we're going to look to see if there are any potential under the radar prospects that might the bigs next year as well.

On the mound, one prospect that might be described as "intriguing" is John Parrish. In a full season in AAA he had an ERA under 4, so it's likely that he's next in line to fill a spot in Seattle's rotation, should the need arise. Of course, the problem with this approach is that Parrish seems rather underwhelming as a pitcher. He doesn't strike out too many hitters and seems to rely on limiting home runs, despite a lack of overwhelming stuff. As Seattle fans have repeatedly seen over the past few years, that is not a recipe for success in the big leagues. Without a major change in his arsenal, Seattle fans are justifiably cautious about expecting much of anything.

Juan Schorr is another intriguing player who could see time in Seattle's lineup next season. Seattle drafted him knowing that he wouldn't hit for much power, but they appreciated his ability to consistently make contact and to hit for a high average. So far, those same abilities have been on display at every level where Schorr has appeared. The problem with Schorr's game is that, in addition to producing almost no power at the plate, his defensive abilities are very, very limited. He's played 2nd base at all levels of the minors, but he's never been particularly good at it. With those limitations, it's hard to figure out where he might land in Seattle's future lineup. Some scouts speculate that he could play first base, but, of course, you generally don't want a first baseman who might not hit more than 5 home runs in a given year. This coming season will likely be critical for Schorr as Seattle attempts to determine what they have with him, and whether he can play a role on future Storm squads.
