As we've discussed at length, Seattle's 2053 season is not going very well. Surprisingly, though, it seems like the primary culprit has been the Storm's pitching. While Seattle's offense has certainly not been good, it's fair to say that the offense has improved from years past, and has at least mildly exceeded expectation. Let's take a look at Seattle's offense and see who's been performing well, and who hasn't.
We would be remiss if we didn't start our discussion with Alexander Julyan. After a slight downturn in his production over the last two seasons, there were some whispers that he might be, at age 34, entering the twilight portion of his career. So far this season, Julyan has quieted those whispers and turned back the clock, as he has a 144 wRC+, which leads the team. Julyan's .581 slugging percentage is over 100 points higher than anyone else on his team, which is, frankly, incredible.
Wilson Andrade has also been having a very good season, as his 121 wRC+ attests. Andrade is putting together his best season as a member of the Storm, and it will be interesting to see if there will be interest around the league in acquiring him at the trade deadline. Most observers think that, for the right offer, Seattle would be willing to move him.
Seattle's most disappointing performer might be Valentin Fitas. Fitas currently has a wRC+ of 99, which is not terrible on its face. However, it is, by far, the lowest mark that he has produced as a member of the Storm. What's more, his defense also appears to have significantly regressed, as he has been a clear negative in left field. That, combined with his inability to hit left-handed pitching, has rendered Fitas as largely ineffective, and Seattle fans are wondering whether this will be his last year in Seattle.
