Chasing The Storm 2051-6 Rookie of the Year

Post by njherdfan » Mon Aug 08, 2022 3:44 pm

As Seattle's season comes to a merciful end, we're doing our best to focus on reasons for optimism. As we've previously discussed, it's not always easy to find those reasons when your team has become a perennial doormat, but we do our best, If Seattle is ever going to become successful again, it will need to ride its talented quartet of young arms. This year, Seattle took its first, halting steps in that direction as it promoted Jackson to the majors and let him fill the role in Seattle's rotation that he will hopefully occupy for the foreseeable future.

Jackson is the easy choice for Seattle's rookie of the year award for the 2051 season; there wasn't a ton of competition for the award, but that shouldn't make us lose sight of Jackson's performance. Jackson made 22 starts and had a rather unimpressive 4.69 ERA. While that is not a particularly good number, his FIP, of 3.91, was significantly lower. In his last 5 starts, Jackson went at least 5 innings and didn't give up more than 3 earned runs, which certainly seems to be a reason for hope going into next season. While his strikeout numbers were mundane, Jackson did a great job of eliminating walks and largely kept the ball in the park.

Jackson was the 11th pick in the 2048 draft, and his promotion to the bigs was one of the few bright spots for Seattle fans this season. Jackson throws five above-average pitches, and, as his walk numbers show, he also commands them quite well. There's no question that Jackson will be in Seattle's rotation next year, and it's more than likely that he'll be Seattle's de facto ace, at least until reinforcements in the form of additional prospects make their way to the bigs. Seattle fans are excited to see what's in store for Jackson as he can hopefully be a major part of Seattle's next successful seasons.
