Chasing The Storm 2051-2 Reasons For Hope?

Post by njherdfan » Wed Jul 06, 2022 1:11 pm

As we've already discussed, Seattle's 2051 season has been a disaster, as just about every component of the team has been awful. When you are able to single out a particular element of a 31-59 team as being "extra bad," then you know there's a real problem. In the case of the Storm, it's easy to point to the pitching staff, which has been almost historically bad. Seattle has traditionally had very good luck with its starting pitchers, so Seattle's fans have been bitterly disappointed and confused by the struggles they've witnessed so far. While the major league squad has been awful, there might (might) be some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, as Seattle has a cohort of young arms that Storm fans have pinned their future hopes on. Let's take a quick look at the quartet: Lucio Juarez, Doug Eckhoff, Joe Jackson, and Harley Phillips

Jackson, who was Seattle's first round pick in 2048, is the oldest member of the group and the most advanced; he recently made his debut in Seattle. Scouts have some questions about how good Jackson's stuff will ever be, but he has a mix of 5 good pitches and good control; when he was called up, he had a 3.95 ERA and 3.74 FIP in AAA.

Juarez was Seattle's first round pick in 2050, and Seattle fans are very excited to see what he can do. He's currently pitching in AA, where he has an ERA of 2.14 and a FIP of 2.24. While he probably won't be called up to Seattle this year, expect to see him in AAA by the end of this season, with a good chance of seeing him in Seattle in 2052. He has two excellent pitches, and Seattle fans hope that his changeup can develop into a devastating third offering.

Eckhoff was Seattle's first round pick in 2049, and he's currently in AAA with a 2.04 ERA and a 2.65 FIP. Eckhoff throws four pitches, three of which grade out as above-average. At this point, Seattle fans are pining to see him in the majors, but the front office would like to see him develop a bit more against left-handed hitters before he makes that leap.

Finally, Phillips is Seattle's most recent first round pick. He's only 20 years old and already is more than holding his own in AAA, as he has a 2.16 ERA and a 2.91 FIP. Scouts have marveled at how developed he already is, and there's speculation that he might be ready to make the majors sooner rather than later.

Of course, for all of these pitchers except for Jackson, there are questions about how much benefit they'd receive from being promoted in the midst of a lost season, as compared to starting fresh and making their Brewster debuts in 2052. It will be a situation to monitor for the remainder of this season.
