When your team goes 62-100, the concept of "value" feels very relative, and that is certainly the case for Seattle's 2048 season. Unsurprisingly, there weren't too many seasons that people should be too proud of, as almost everyone on the team struggled to one degree or another. However, there are some rules that we must follow, and one rule is that there must be an MVP every season.
This season, for Seattle, it's pretty clear that the most valuable player was shortstop Pedro Diaz. Diaz was Seattle's runaway WAR leader with 4.9, as he started 156 games at shortstop and played above average defense. On top of his glove work at a demanding position, Diaz also had his best offensive season as a member of the Storm, as he had a .793 OPS and he also stole an impressive 66 bases, which was good for second in the league.
When Diaz signed with Seattle before the 2044 season, there was quite a bit of controversy, as many observers thought his 6-year contract, worth over $20 million per season, was excessive. It's fair to wonder if Diaz has done enough to quiet those critics, but he has been consistent and solid for Seattle for the duration of his contract, and Seattle certainly doesn't regret signing him. As Diaz heads into the final season of his contract in 2049, the Storm will face a big decision; should they make an effort to re-sign him, or perhaps look to trade him? It will be interesting to see Seattle's next move.
