Normally, when discussing a baseball team, stability is viewed as a good thing; Fans and players alike are said to appreciate continuity. The 2047 Storm did an excellent job of disproving that thought, as nearly the entire team returned after an excellent 2046, and the 2047 season was an unmitigated disaster. With that in mind, let's take a look at what Seattle fans can expect this offseason as the Storm look to improve for the 2048 season.
As a threshold issue, it seems that Seattle simply won't have a lot of room to sign any big-name free agents. Current projections indicate that the team will have somewhere between $5 and 10 million dollars; needless to say, that won't be enough to sign someone who can turn Seattle's fortunes around.
All of Seattle's starting lineup is under contract for next season, which, again, might not be a good thing for Seattle's upcoming season, if those players can't improve, and improve quickly. The real offseason decisions will likely come to a head after next season, as many of Seattle's longtime regulars, such as Eric Jones and Yasir bin Lufti could become free agents.
With all that said, what will Seattle be looking to add this offseason? Reports indicate that Seattle will be focused on its pitching staff and its bullpen' this isn't really a surprise, since Seattle's pitching was awful this past season. With minimal money available, expect the Storm to focus more on short-term deals, to the extent possible, and perhaps look to acquire a back-of-the-rotation starter. Another possibility is for Seattle to hit the trade market. Of course, it's generally considered best practice to buy low and sell high, which could be more difficult for Seattle to do, based on this past season's performances. Seattle fans are anxious to see what's in store, and how their team will look different next season.
