In what has been a fairly disastrous 2047 season for Seattle, news of Joe Stewart's injury was particularly grim. Stewart, in his first full season in the major leagues at the young age of 22, was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff. To the shock and dismay of Seattle's fans and players, Stewart's injury was then diagnosed as career-ending, with no possibility of rehabilitation. Stewart was understandably too distraught to speak to the media, but Seattle GM Nathan Eagan seemingly spoke for the entire franchise when he told the assembled reporters that he was just "absolutely, completely devastated. No one thought his injury could be that serious."
After making his majors debut last season, Stewart had nicely settled in to a high-leverage role at the back of Seattle's bullpen. On the season, Stewart had thrown just over 54 innings and had struck out 99 batters, and he had an ERA of only 2.82. In those 54 innings, he had already accumulated 1.3 WAR, and his future looked incredibly bright.
Seattle's search for an arm to replace Stewart will start soon, but first, it seems that all of Seattle will need to take some time to adjust to the harsh, new reality that Stewart's career is over, seemingly just after it began.

One of the advantages of having no decent prospects is that you rarely suffer this heartbreak lol
