After a 9 year drought, Seattle fans were ecstatic to see their beloved Storm clinch the Frick League Pacific Division Crown. After last year's 81-81 finish, Seattle fans weren't particularly optimistic for the 2046 edition of the squad, but almost from the season's outset, Seattle aimed to prove the doubters wrong. Seattle jumped out to an incredibly hot start, and at one point, it's record stood at 37-18. From that point on, Seattle only needed to play at a roughly average pace, and that's basically what they did, as Seattle finished with a 93-69 record. As if to emphasize that this season wasn't a fluke, however, Seattle also posted a run differential of +122, which is more than respectable.
One of the main advantages of winning the division, of course, is getting a bye through the Geoghegan Round. When Seattle manager Juan Escobar was asked who he was rooting for in the series between the Hawaii Tropics and the Chicago Black Sox, he replied, partly in jest (we think) "I'm just rooting for a long series." It's safe to say he got his wish, as the series went a full five games. Even better news for the Storm is that Tropics ace Alaric Wullenweber started the decisive fifth game, and while he's basically superhuman as a pitcher, he still needs some rest, and as a result, he's unlikely to take the mound for Hawaii until at least Game 3. That's welcome news for Seattle, and it's given rise to some cautious optimism. While Seattle's players have been cautious not to provide any sort of bulletin board material, there's no question that they, along with their legion of devoted fans, are incredibly excited for the upcoming series, and for the return of playoff baseball to Seattle.
