Chasing The Storm 2046-2 ASB Review: Offense

Post by njherdfan » Wed Mar 31, 2021 11:45 am

It's always a good time to stop and smell the proverbial roses, but there are few better times to take a pause and examine a team's performance than at the all-star break. As we pause the 2046 season for a few days, the Seattle Storm have a record of 55-37, and have outscored their opponents by 83 runs so far. To put it mildly, Seattle's fans have quite a bit to be happy about. Today, we're going to take a look at Seattle's offense, which has been shattering expectations.

TOP PERFORMERS: When listing Seattle's top performers, it's only fair to start with Seattle's best player, Alexander Julyan. It almost feels redundant to talk about him, though, because he's always so good. So far this season Julyan has an OPS of .951 and 2.9 WAR, which leads the team. No surprise there. It's definitely worth taking a look at two of the more unheralded stars of Seattle's offense, though, to get a better picture of the team's success. Jared Bolen has quietly been quite good behind the plate for Seattle, and his .803 OPS, while not initially eye-catching, is quite good for a catcher, and that offense, combined with his solid defense, has so far produced 1.6 WAR. The other offensive stalwart is Abakada Angosisye, who has really come into his own as a DH. So far this year Angosisye leads the team with an OPS of .979, and his 16 home runs are good for the 3rd on the team. His contributions have been a key piece of Seattle's rejuvenated offense.

DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE: It's no fun to focus on the negatives, so instead we'll say that Eric Jonesis poised for a big second half of the season! Jones, who had an OPS of .882 last year, currently only has an OPS of .689. Scouts haven't reported any concerns with his physical talent, but the results have not yet materialized. Seattle fans are hoping that will change soon, and that Jones can get into a good rhythm and help to elevate the team's offense.
