Chasing The Storm 2046-1 April Review

Post by njherdfan » Fri Mar 05, 2021 8:01 am

With one month of the 2046 season in the proverbial books, it's time to take a look at the Seattle Storm's season thus far. Just as everyone expected, the Storm are 21-9 and have outscored their opponents by 64 runs so far. Puts hand to earpiece, furrows brow
Upon further review, absolutely no one expected Seattle to play as well as they have so far, and their run differential would seem to indicate that the success has not been entirely flukey. How has this happened? Who's been exceeding expectations? Let's take a look!

On offense, any description of the team's success needs to start with Alexander Julyan who has taken his game to another level so far this season. He currently has an OPS of 1.115, and leads the team in all three triple crown categories, and has accumulated 1.6 WAR so far. Perhaps most impressively, he has 15 walks to only 7 strikeouts. Pretty cool! Julyan's partner in the outfield, Aires Penharanda, has also been fantastic, as he's built on his excellent 2045 season. So far, Penharanda has an OPS of .933 and has continued to play his normal, excellent defense, which has been good for 1.2 WAR so far. Finally, it's worth noting that Abakada Angosisye has also been fantastic. Scouts have long thought that he'd be an excellent DH for Seattle, but this year Angosisye appears to be coming into his own, as his OPS of 1.020. A pure DH who proudly brags about no longer owning a baseball glove, Angosisye needs to hit to justify his place on Seattle's roster, and he's doing just that so far.

On the mound, Lane Aldridge has been incredible, with a 1.83 ERA and 1.2 WAR. A cursory look at Aldridge's career stats and current .218 BABIP allowed indicates that this level of success won't last for him, but he appears to have improved his control and he's also limited the home runs he's allowed on this young seasons, and Seattle fans will be hoping for that trent to continue, even as his ERA likely goes up to something resembling his career stats.
