Chasing The Storm 2044-4 A Look Back

Post by njherdfan » Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:54 am

Now that the 2044 season is over, it's a good time to take a look back at Seattle's season and acknowledge some of the top performers from the season.

At the plate, there's no question that Seattle's top performer was Alexander Julyan. We've said it before, but it now seems like Julyan has finally arrived as the star he was long projected to be. It can get lost that Julyan is still only 25 years old because he has been such a highly touted prospect for so long, but Seattle's fans have to be giddy about what is to come for their star center fielder. This season, in only 127 games, Julyan posted an OPS of .851 while playing a very competent center field. Julyan's 23 home runs were second on the team, and his 3.7 WAR was tops among Seattle's hitters.

On the mound, Hector Marquez posted another fantastic season as Seattle's workhorse. He accumulated 6.5 WAR while leading the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. His 6.5 WAR was good for fifth in the league, and Seattle fans were thrilled to see him taking the mound every fifth day.

It's also worth noting the spectacular season that Jarred Perkins put together out of the bullpen. In one of the best seasons ever for a Seattle reliever, Perkins threw 81 innings, struck out 107 hitters, and posted an ERA of 1.76 which was good for 3.8 WAR. Last season Seattle's observers speculated that Perkins would be due for a bounceback performance, and they were certainly proven right, as Perkins was dominant, and played a key role in Seattle's overperformance of its run differential.
