Chasing The Storm 2043-6 Team Awards

When your team goes 63-99, there usually aren't too many positives to focus on. After all, if there had been more positives, the team's record would probably have been better. Having said that, it's important to try and find the positives in everything, including a disastrous season. With that in mind, let's take a look at Seattle's top performers this year.

On offense, it's pretty clear that one player stood above the rest: Alexander Julyan finally progressed into the player that Seattle fans had long hoped to see, as the 24-year-old led the Storm with 31 home runs, 103 RBIs, and an .880 OPS, while also leading all hitters with 4.6 WAR. Julyan's journey from top prospect to major leaguer has been chronicled before, but he serves as a good reminder about the value of having patience with top prospects, even if their development takes a bit longer than it seems like it should. Julyan was also a very good defensive outfielder, and in a year in which most Seattle players raised questions about their futures in a Storm uniform, Julyan emphatically answered questions about him; Seattle fans can look forward to what he brings to the table for many years.

On the mound, Hector Marquez was Seattle's lone bright spot. Despite having Seattle's awful defense behind him, Marquez posted a 3.76 ERA while throwing 201 innings and leading the team with 5.4 WAR. Marquez posted a FIP of 3.27 which indicates how much Seattle's defense hurt him, which, if you've been paying attention, should not be considered a surprise. Marquez is head-and-shoulders above the rest of Seattle's pitchers, and Seattle fans can only hope that Seattle's fortunes turn around soon, so Marquez can enjoy pitching in more meaningful games.
