Chasing The Storm 2040-4 Top ML Hitters

Post by njherdfan » Mon Dec 09, 2019 11:27 am

When a season goes as poorly as Seattle's 2040 campaign has gone, it's natural to look at the minor league system, and to hope that more help will be on the way in the near future. Is that the case in Seattle? Let's take a look to find out!

Seattle's top minor league hitter was, without question, Aires Penharanda. The 20 year old spent the entire season at AAA, and put up an OPS of .963, which was good for 6.0 WAR. Scouts who have seen Penharanda play say that they have no doube tht he should have a place in Seattle's lineup next year. Those same scouts report that while Penharanda might not have the upside of a superstar like some other prospects, he is almost guaranteed to be an above-average regular. Penharanda is a very good hitter with decent speed. On defense, Seattle had him play center all season to learn the position; while it's clear that left field is his best position, and that he would be an elite defender there, he more than held his own in center. It will be interesting to see Seattle's plan for him next season.

Another key prospect that struggled a bit was Alexander Julyan. Julyan was one of Seattle's most-hyped prospects when he signed for a $22 million bonus. Scouts continue to rave about his talent, but those scouts are getting a little antsy that the 21 year old Julyan has yet to truly develop into the superstar he was supposed to become. This next season will be huge for his development, and will tell us a lot about what Seattle fans can expect in the future.
