Chasing The Storm 2038-2: Offseason Review

Post by njherdfan » Mon Mar 18, 2019 12:24 pm

This offseason, Seattle Storm fans were curious to see what, if anything, the Storm would do to address some of the issues that they faced last season. Storm fans knew that there wasn't going to be too much money for hte Storm to use, but the fans were hopeful that the team would get creative.

The offseason got off to an unexpected start when franchise icon Juan Escobar retired. While the departure freed up a bit of room for Seattle to work with, it also created a hole at DH.

Ultimately, Seattle decided to lay fairly low during the offseason. The Storm's only major signing was outfielder Michael Durham. Durham, 27, has long been regarded as a talented player who has never put his entire package of tools together in one season. Seattle clearly saw Durham as someone who would be worth taking a risk on.

It's not entirely clear where Durham will play. Durham's best defensive position is probably left field. However, Seattle has other corner outfielders in Lionel Crepin and John Hickman. It's not totally clear if Hickman will play center, or if he will cede that spot back to Walter Finch, who was injured last year. Finally, Durham might also play DH at times, but Aurelio Lopez might have something to say about that, as might Seattle's top hitting prospect, Vincent Vanderhugen. It will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out throughout the season.

I like Durham, nice deal. Some people under rate that gap power.
