It's fair to say that Juan Escobar never thought he would be returning to Kalamazoo. When Escobar burst on to the major league scene, he answered all of the questions about his readiness, and no one ever suggested sending him to the minors. Now, however, things are a little different.
Right after Escobar retired, he was hired by the Storm to serve as a hitting coach for the Storm's AAA affiliate, the Kalamazoo Kangaroos. Said Seattle GM Nathan Eagan, "this hiring makes a lot of sense for several reasons. First, when he was still playing, Escobar was known as one of the smartest and most cerebral guys on the team. The other players would constantly come to him for tips. Second, it can only be a good thing that all of the players will have so much respect for their hitting coach. We hope that some of Escobar's success can rub off on them."
While Escobar has never coached before, Seattle's fans are excited to see what he can do with some of Seattle's more promising young hitters. While Escobar might be tempted to grab a bat himself, he assures us that those days are, in fact, over.
