Chasing The Storm 2036-5 A look at the top performers

Post by njherdfan » Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:37 pm

With the season in the books, and Seattle's disappointing finish receding slowly into the distance, it's time to take a look at Seattle's top performers from the 2036 season. In a year in which the Storm went 96-66 there are certainly a number of good candidates, but ultimately, this was a pretty clear choice.

Offense: Jesus Gonzalez . Gonzalez was acquired by the Storm in 2033 to play 3rd base, which he did admirably for three seasons. He never showed, however, that he was capable of producing the type of season that he put up in 2036. In 156 fantastic games, he put up a 139 wRC+, which led the team, as did his 39 home runs and 112 RBIs. On top of that, he was also excellent on defense. It's no surprise, then, that he led the offense in WAR.

Pitching: Ken Walter . For years, it's seemed as if Walter has labored in the shadows of his better known teammate, Alfredo Contreras. That ended this year. At the tender age of 23, Walter led Seattle in every major pitching category, as he recorded 232 strikeouts, 7 complete games, a 2.54 FIP and an astounding 9.6 WAR, which led the league, as did his astounding .53 HR/9 innings. In short, Walter was an ace, and was everything Seattle fans could have hoped for. Now, they will eagerly await his encore next season.

I'm going to be oddly disappointed if Walter doesn't take the Nebraska. Totally brilliant season.

Walter is certainly grateful for all of your support! I think it's a well-deserved win. I might be biased, though.
