Chasing The Storm 2035-2 Offseason Review

Post by njherdfan » Tue Jun 12, 2018 10:37 am

After a disappointing 2034 season, Seattle fans looked to the offseason, and wondered what, if anything, Seattle GM Nathan Eagan would have in store to help the team succeed in 2035. Ultimately, Seattle signed three free agents: William McIntyre, Ramiro Marino, and Jose Perucho. Seattle fans are hopeful that those players will help the Storm achieve far more than they accomplished in 2034.

William McIntyre joins the Storm on a 1-year deal from Atlantic City, where he was dreadful in 2034. However, the Storm hope that he could be poised for a bounceback; in 2033, McIntyre had a 119 wRC+, and the Storm would be thrilled if he could put up similar numbers. And, to be frank, if it doesn’t work out, he can be cut pretty quickly. Seattle GM Nathan Eagan also praised McIntrye for his leadership abilities.

Ramiro Marino was Seattle’s biggest acquisition of the offseason, as he signed a 3 year deal worth 22 million. After 6 straight years with a wRC_ between 118 and 131, Seattle fans should feel pretty confident about who it is they’re getting. It’s less clear what position Marino will be playing, but that seems like a good problem for Seattle to have.

Finally, Seattle resigned Jose Perucho. Perucho has spent the last 4 years in Seattle where he produced remarkably similar numbers, although he was significantly boosted by allowing a very low BABIP last season. Expect Perucho to fill a middle-innings role this season for the Storm.

I like the Perchuco signing quite a bit--especially if you can keep him pitching against critical lefties. Marino at $7.5M/3 is probably a pretty good deal, though his splits are fairly heavy for a RHB. Solid enough defensively. McIntyre, as you said, is a pretty good low-cost gamble.

Overall, I think Seattle is looking good--but I said that last year, and look where it got you.

Haha if it helps, I thought we looked great last year as well. And considering Marino was originally asking for twice as much money, I was okay with where it ended up.

I was monitoring Marino all off season hoping the price would keep dropping- you got a bargain there!
