Heading into the 2034 season, it’s time for the (almost) annual tradition of taking a look at the Seattle Storm’s record book, and seeing what records could be on the verge of being broken. It's also fund to look back at the 2033 edition, and see what happened.
OFFENSE: Seattle fans have been spoiled to watch two of the greatest offensive players in Seattle history over the past decade, as Jorge Rodriguez have produced incredible statistics that have made them the record-holders in most categories. The most-watched statistical milestone this season is whether Rodriguez can hit 4 home runs, to become the first Seattle player to get to 500. He already has the Seattle record with 496, but every Storm fan hopes he can get to 500. Rodriguez and Escobar are tied for the franchise record with 83.2 WAR; if things continue as they have, the younger Escobar will pass Rodriguez this season, and then put the record well out of reach. Rodriguez and Escobar are 1 and 2 in games played and at-bats, while Escobar needs to score 17 runs to pass his manager, Trey Williams, for 2nd all time. Rodriguez, of course, holds the record. Escobar and Rodriguez are 1 and 2 for hits, and with 2720, Escobar could get to 3,000 by 2035. Escobar is 62 doubles behind Williams for the franchise record, and Escobar is 69 RBIs behind Rodriguez.
PITCHING: There are far fewer records here that are in danger of falling, but it’s worth noting that Alfredo Contreras is currently 10th in franchise history with 1209 strikeouts. With a good year, he could move into 6th place, passing Edward Davis, who finished with 1410 as a member of the Storm. Contreras is also 8th in career pitching WAR, and appears poised to move up that list, as well.
