Chasing The Storm 2033-1 A Look at the Record Book

Post by njherdfan » Mon Nov 20, 2017 3:28 pm

Heading into the 2033 season, it’s time to take another look at the Seattle Storm’s historical leaderboards, and see what records, if any, are on the verge of falling.

OFFENSE: By the time their careers are finished, Jorge Rodriguez and Juan Escobar will own just about every significant career record for the Storm, and they will have taken a lot of those records from their manager, Trey Williams. Going into this season, Rodriguez has Seattle’s career WAR record, with 81.8, while Juan Escobar is second, with 79.3. Will Escobar be able to make up those 2.5 WAR this season for Seattle? Storm fans hope that both players have terrific seasons, and the chips fall where they may. Rodriguez already has the career mark for games played, but with 76 more games Escobar will pass Williams, his manager, for 2nd. Similarly, Escobar needs 181 at-bats to move past Williams into 2nd for career at-bats, behind Rodriguez. Rodriguez also has the career record for runs; Escobar is in 3rd, 94 behind Williams. Escobar has the franchise record for hits, with 2542; Rodriguez needs 52 to pass his manager for 2nd, at 2,441. Escobar, in 2nd, trails Rodriguez by 104 total bases, in 558 fewer plate appearances. Rodriguez has already shattered the Storm’s home run record, but with 16 more home runs, he would reach the 500 home run club. Rodriguez and Escobar are well ahead of anyone else for the RBI record, and Escobar trails Rodriguez by 139.

Pitching: Unsurprisingly, there is very little to report here.

It's been fun watching those guys kick ass year after year. Rodriguez is definitely in the twilight of his career. I really hope Escobar can reverse his falloff a bit. He was on pace for some legendary numbers at one point. Now I just don't want to see him be average.

Agreed. I took the risk of extending Escobar with the same thought. Also I agree about Rodriguez definitely being in the twilight of his career; now I would just love to see him get to 500 HRs.
