Chasing The Storm 2017-16 LV Series Review

Seattle left Des Moines and then headed to Vegas, where it dropped 2 of 3 to the Hustlers.

Game One: Seattle relied on some clutch hitting to win the opener 4-3. Seattle took the lead in the second when Jose Munoz homered off of Las Vegas starter Andrew Chesley, but Las Vegas came back with 2 runs in the fourth off of Seattle starter Edward Davis, on a home run by Norbert Marsuppini and an RBI single by Emory Sharp. Seattle retook the lead in the sixth as Josh Tyler hit a 2-run homer and Richard Rollins followed with a solo shot to make it 4-3. Davis went 7.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 2 runs. Closer Greg Downing came in to get the final out of the eighth. In the ninth, Edward Allen led off with a solo homer to cut the lead to 1, but Downing was able to retire the next 3 hitters to end the game and secure his 14th save of the season.

Game Two: Seattle couldn’t solve Vegas starter Dieter Hartinger, and the result was a 9-0 loss. Seattle only managed 4 hits on the day, which makes any sort of victory difficult, but Las Vegas’ 7-run explosion in the fourth off of starter Angel Cervantes quickly put the game out of reach. Lucio Vazquez led off the inning with a homer, but the Hustlers would ultimately put up 9 hits in the inning as they won the game in a laugher.

Game Three: Seattle’s bullpen blew 2 leads, and the Hustlers won the rubber match 5-4 in 13 innings.. Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the first as Dave May singled home Jay Pearson off of Vegas starter Jose Linares. Seattle doubled its lead in the fifth on a solo homer from Francisco Franco, but the Hustlers came back to tie the game in the sixth off of Seattle starter Esteban Benitez. The game remained tied until the tenth, when Josh Tyler’s single gave Seattle a 3-2 lead, and runners on the corners with only 1 out. Unfortunately for Seattle, however, they couldn’t score again. Seattle closer Greg Downing had thrown a perfect ninth and he needed only 3 outs to end the game, but he gave up a lead-off homer to Keith Young to tie the game. Barry Allen responded with a solo homer of his own for Seattle in the eleventh, but this time it was James Endres who couldn’t get the last 3 outs, as he gave up a game-tying single to Emory Sharp. Endres remained in the game until the thirteenth inning, when he served up a walk-off homer to Eric Thorne. With the loss, Seattle’s record stands at 29-22.
