Chasing The Storm 2017-7 VAL Series Review

Post by njherdfan » Thu Aug 21, 2014 4:02 pm

Seattle continued to stay at home for all of April, this time dropping 2 of 3 to Valencia.

Game One: Seattle’s offense led the way for a change, and Seattle won the opener 9-7. The Stars quickly jumped on Seattle starter Ángel Cervantes, scoring 3 first-inning runs, but Seattle came right back against Stars’ starter Sheng Yen, as Trey Williams hit a 2-run homer and Dave May followed with a solo blast. A Keith Moss triple gave the Storm a 4-3 lead, and Williams and Moss both added RBI singles in the fourth before May completed Seattle’s scoring with a 3-run homer to give Seattle a 9-3 lead. Valencia mounted a furious rally, but Greg Downing came in to record the game’s last 4 outs for his 7th save of the season.

Game Two: Seattle left nine men on base, and the result was a 3-2 defeat. Facing Valencia starter Maxwell Johnson, Seattle took a quick 2-0 lead in the second on a 2-run double from Dave May, but Roger Rouse’s double off of Seattle starter Esteban Benítez cut the lead in half. Seattle held the lead until the sixth, when Alfonse Perales hit a 2-out, 2-run single to give the Stars a 3-2 edge. Seattle got the leadoff runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but both innings featured poor sac bunt attempts, with the lead runners being thrown out and chances being extinguished. Skip Glendenning recorded his sixth save of the season.

Game Three: Seattle’s offensive struggles continued in the rubber match, as the Stars posted a 4-1 win. The Stars got to Seattle starter Domingo Becerra early, courtesy of a Jason Dunn RBI double. Ernesto Guzmán’s third inning single made it 2-0, and that was enough for Valencia starter Julian Anderson, who went 8 innings and allowed only 1 run. Seattle’s only run came on a Don Goodwin single in the sixth. With the loss, Seattle’s record stands at 12-10.

You're able to rough up Yen, but can't do much against the other two guys. Also, Skip Glendinning is awesome as a reliever as we all thought he would be (Valencia).

Yeah, Glendinning should be a dominant closer for a while.
