Chasing The Storm 2013 22-BUF Series Review

Post by njherdfan » Fri Nov 22, 2013 11:21 am

After winning 2 of 3 against the Suns, the Storm continued their relatively hot streak by winning 3 of 4 against Buffalo.

Game One: The series got off to a bad start as the Storm lost game one 11-4. Esteban Benitez started and he pitched reaosnably well, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs on an incredible 12 hits. Eventually, Benitez should experience some better luck as regression smiles on him. Hopefully. What had been a tight 3-1 game after 7 innings quickly devolved into a farce as Felipe Blanco was unable to record an out, and then surrendered a grand slam. After the top of the 8th the score was 8-1 and the game was no longer in doubt. Josh Tyler was the only member of the Storm to have multiple hits, and Shawn McClure hit his 5th home run of the year.

Game Two: The Storm rebounded to win the second game of the series 5-3. Morgan Ackerman got the start and he was very solid, going 7 innings and allowing 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 and only walking 1. Both Greg Downing and Paul Hogan were terrific out of the bullpen, as they each threw scoreless innings. Hogan recorded his 8th save of the year. On offense, the Storm were led by Dave May, who has been terrific this season. May had 3 hits to pace the offense, while Shawn McClure drove in two runs.

Game Three: The Storm made it two in a row as they defeated the Bison by the score of 3-2 in 11 innings. The story of the game was Austin Gibson who had four hits. His fourth hit was a walk-off home run that went 431 feet and sent the Storm fans home happy. Tipper Kengos added three hits and Trey Williams added two, including his sixth home run. On the mound Domingo Beccera pitched very well, goins 6 2/3 innings and only allowing 2 runs. The bullpen pitched even better, going 4 1/3 innings, only allowing 1 hit and no runs. Paul Hogan pitched the final two innings and got the win after Gibson's blast.

Game Four: The Storm won the series with a 10-1 pasting in the finale. The story of the game was Angel Cervantes, as the rookie threw his second career complete game, only allowing 1 run and 6 hits while striking out four. Cervantes also received terrific run support as Seattle had 16 hits. Trey Williams led the way with 4 hits, including 3 doubles, which tied a franchise record. Shawn McClure had 3 hits, as did Tipper Kengos, who got on base in each of his 5 plate appearances. Dave May and Gonzalo Santiago each had 2 hits, and Santiago launched his first home run of the season.
