Kid Loses Composure
June 27, 2063: Madison, WI -- For five innings tonight, college-rookie Paul Glass was nearly untouchable. Alas, a game is longer than five innings--though in Glass's case it was only four batters longer.
Fiscus Discusses Glass PerformanceThrough those five innings, Glass gave up only two hits, and a single run--which was manufactured on a single from Alfred Primm, a steal, a ground ball that moved Primm to third, and a ground ball out that scored it. "Paul was amazing," clone manager Kate Fiscus said. "All the way until he wasn't."
Madison's Mike Winchester drilled a ground ball singlet through the infield to lead off the sixth, and Ricadro Norman worked a moderately rare walk off Glass to put two on. After a soft liner to right that was caught, 3B Curt Holter blasted a Glass offering into the bleachers in deep right center, and suddenly four runs were in.
"Paul's young," Fiscus said. "I think he got flustered with the single, and lost his concentration on Norman. It happens. If he spreads those out, Madison doesn't get anything. But instead they got a cluster of hits and walks. But he's got to work through those moments. It's about focus, which is hard to learn in the big leagues."
The Wolves added two runs later in the game, and took the victory 6-4.
"It's a tough loss, and I know Paul's a little pissed at himself," Fiscus said. "But.let's face it, baseball's a team game. We weren't doing anything against (Madison starter) Tyler Murray either. So it's hard to hang it on any one person."
