"Clapper" Hoping to Make Some Noise
April 11, 2060: Marshall Islands – From their Executive tiki hut, the Bikini Krill front office revealed today that they have selected 18-year-old outfielder Ramón 'Clapper' Sánz with their first selection in the 2061 amateur draft. Sánz is a multi-purpose player who looks like he can play across the whole outfield while being a nuisance with both the bat and his feet. He played his first year of junior college with the Asia Suns where he clubbed 15 homers, stole 9 bases, and slashed .310/.423/.638. Baseball people say they expect he could start his professional career as high in the organization as Kamloops-AA.

Teenager Brings
New HopeAt 6’2”, he’s a good athlete, and seems generally a solid face in the clubhouse.
Some suggest he might find time in the club’s development lab on Pain Island, or be the recipient of additional schooling in the off-season, but that’s a set of decisions for another time.
“Ramón is already pretty well-developed for an 18-year-old, and we think he’s got a reasonable chance to be able to cover center field before it’s all said and done,” said Assistant GM Monica Green. “He hits that personality profile, too. He’s a good worker, so we’re optimistic he could be an early bloomer. Either way, his addition gives us some nice depth in the outfield.”
Some are suggesting that with a bit of luck, Sánz could play on the atoll as early as next season, which means we could see a defensive outfield that included Sánz, Mike Cox, and Fernando Bushey, who was the club’s first round pick two seasons ago. This would clearly be a complete retooling of the group the team fields now. Pitchers are intrigued.
“I like our guys,” said starteArturo Mezaza. “They’re all out there trying their best.”
“Well,” said fellow sJon Brownn Brown, “Their best could use some work, then, couldn’t it?”
When asked about his nickame, Sánz gave a wide smile and said "My friends all say I'm the guy that rings the bell."
(Which we think in this generation's lingo for "get's things done," but could also mean something completely different. Unfortunately, we are all older than 18.96 years of age here at the Daily Krill, and youth culture is moving just that fast anymore).
Singability Thought to Play a Role
Some inside the club’s executive suite point out that the team might have gone other directions, but that after last season’s debacle, it had some concerns over the financial side of things. Sánz’s representation suggests that he’s not going to be a bargain basement, but that the outfielder certainly wants to play professionally, and as long as the Krill are willing to be reasonable, a deal should be forthcoming.
Stay tuned, of course.
This suggests, however, that the front office may be looking to dip lower in the mix for much of the early rounds.
“We’re always looking to be efficient,” Green said while neither confirming or denying the suggestion. “That’s just good business.”
