Veteran Signs “Show Me” Deal
September 16, 2057: Forever Land – The Bikini Krill continued work toward figuring out what next season’s roster might look like, signing veteran reliever Ralph Page to a major league contract for next season. The deal will pay the reliver $700K.
The team signed Page to a minor league deal while he was convalescing from the rotator cuff surgery that resulted in his release from Jacksonville in early April. He faced a single hitter on April 2nd, striking him out on five pitches and leaving the game cradling his arm. At the time some thought that his career, which has seen him register a 38-29 record with 45 saves, could be over at age 32.
“I appreciated that Ron (GM Ron Collins) trusted me enough to bring me into the Bikini franchise when other teams maybe didn’t have the patience for me. That really played on my mind as I was thinking about signing here. I think I could have gotten more on the market, but baseball has been good to me, and I’m at the time of my life where I wanted to prioritize relationships. And it’s been fun to be with the guys here even though the results haven’t come.”
Page is well regarded by his teammates, too, who celebrated the signing by giving him a pie in the face.
“Best tasting whipped cream of my life,” Page said.
