Chasing The Storm 2050-2: The Disappointments

This post could go on forever. Again, when your team is performing as badly as Seattle's has this season, it's fair to assume that there are going to be quite a few disappointments. However, writing "just about everyone" and calling it a day isn't really great writing, so we're not going to do that this time, instead we're going to look at a few players that Seattle fans had expected more from.

Reynaldo Torres spent his first few years in professional baseball making his home on the top prospects list. Scouts marveled at his arsenal of pitches and predicted that, at worst, Torres would be a solid mid-rotation starter. To put it mildly, that has not been the case. On the contrary, Torres has been awful. Because Seattle isn't facing any huge pressure to win this season, Torres is still taking his turn on the mound every fifth day, but his starts have been painful to watch, as he has an ERA above 7. His FIP, of just below 6, indicates that he's been slightly unlucky, but if you need to point to a 5.83 FIP, you have bigger issues. At this point, it's fair to wonder if Torres will ever be able to be a positive contributor to Seattle's rotation, which is a huge disappointment for Storm fans.

Pedro Martinez has also been having a terrible year. While neither of his 2 previous years were good, he was at least a league-average hitter, even if he was playing a premium position. This season he's reached new lows, however, as he has a wRC+ of only 72, which has led to a WAR of -1.2. At this point, Seattle fans seem sick of Martinez, and it would be an upset if he's in Seattle's starting lineup in 2051.
