LB P-T: Surfers nab Waterman in Round 2

Post by jcrmoon42 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 2:31 pm

As the pickings by the time we get to the 62nd pick in the draft are really starting to get slim, the Surfers set about trying to find a diamond in the rough. They hope they have found one in the 6'4" third baseman, Casey Waterman from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, the site of Uncle Duke's unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign.

In college with the Comcast Cables, Waterman showed good power and eye, knocking 11 homers and drawing more walks than strikeouts. Looking at him from an MBWBA perspective, he may not jump off the page at you, but there is hope. First off, he was the best hitting true infielder left in the draft. There were several other players who may turn out to be better hitters but who are essentially designated hitters wearing gloves. Second, Waterman will be a strong threat on the basepaths and has a high work ethic. Third, looking at his very preliminary ratings, it appears that he may have a platoon advantage on the strong side, meaning that he could easily be a platoon starter in the big leagues. On the downside, if that platoon advantage doesn't pan out and/or he starts to slip in any one category, he's probably done for. Plus, he is dumb as a stump. They apparently don't make 'em too smart in Coon Rapids.
