2061.03 - The Water

Post by Lane » Wed Nov 20, 2024 2:23 pm

Continued from The Bones, but sadly for you it does not resolve the cliff hanger. Gotta read part 4 for that.

The Water
May 16, 2061

In 2028, during the construction of the stadium, consultation with city officials, the stadium architect, players, and top athletic trainers and sports psychologists led to the development of a novel and complex plumbing system. Field irrigation was sourced from the city’s sustainable landscape watering system. The standard municipal drinking water supply ran on a second system, supplying all other stadium water, with just one important exception.

It was decided that all home-player specific facilities would be on a third, isolated system. This water was secretly sourced, and trucked in to storage tanks located within the stadium. This system was known only to the small group of planners who devised it, and even the players knew nothing more than the fact that they were provided a high-quality water from the stadium taps. Jokes and unsubstantiated rumors that the water contained ‘performance-enhancing’ additives regularly traveled around the clubhouse, and, eventually, throughout the league.

Of course the water was performance-enhancing. It was fortified with the strength of a high-altitude mountain spring. Or, perhaps, it was imbued with the fury of a river flowing through an ancient volcano on a remote island in the Pacific. It was performance-enhancing because it was exclusive, secretive, and was delivered in a vehicle that looked to be fit for deliveries to Fort Knox. It was performance-enhancing because the players thought it was. And it worked, right up until it didn’t.

Maybe you were using the same trucks as Chicago was using: A little mishap in Yellow Springs...

This has to be the case, right @RonCo ?

Geez... now I'm praying that's not what Lane was thinking... Sorry, Lane, if it was.
