McKelvey A Closer?

September 27, 2058
Long Beach, CA

As the 2058 Champion Season comes to a close and the Surfers head to a Geoghegan Round matchup against the Vancouver Mounties, The Independent has taken note of an anomaly in the season statistics that this author cannot recall happening before under the current management regime.

A Long Beach relief pitcher has finished the season with double-digit saves! Somehow, 32 year old Owen McKelvey has earned 19 saves over the course of the season. GM Stephen Lane could not be reached for comment, and Mike Ellis declined to elaborate beyond stating that McKelvey was the closer, and he was happy with the way he was performing.

We are suspicious about the lack of transparency from the club, and given that McKelvey's nickname is 'Conman' we cannot rule out either bribery or other illicit actions.

McKelvey declined to comment for this story, and social media is abuzz with rumors that 'Conman' is up to no good.
