2056.06 - The Long Beach Independent - Movement in FLP Begs Questions
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR SURFERS?
October 18, 2056
Long Beach, CA
In the wake of two huge announcements from the BBA regarding GM changes in Sacramento and Seattle, plus rumors swirling about ownership changes in the PNW, questions are arising about the future of the Long Beach Surfers.
General Manager Stephen Lane has been at the helm of the front office since the 2026 season, when they were located in Tuscon. After early success, the team has floundered, most recently missing the playoffs for 10 straight seasons and then being dumped in the first round by the upstart Des Moines Kernels. Many fans have called for his dismissal as GM, and the jeers were especially loud when the installation of Ron Collins as Seattle GM was announced.
O'Shea Jackson Jr. did not engage with any commenters online, and our sources inside the organization indicate that ownership is happy with the front office management. They also dismissed rumors that the ownership group was looking to move on from the Long Beach franchise and look to purchase the Seattle Storm. Jackson Jr is a native of southern California and it's hard to imagine that he would be enticed to sell the team, even when presented the opportunity to be a part owner of the franchise that is sure to rise in value with Ron Collins assuming the GM role.
We asked GM Stephen Lane if he had any comments about rumors that he would be fired, or if not, if he was worried about the move of Collins to Seattle and the return of Doug 'shoeless' Olmsted to the post in Sacramento.
"I'm happy here in Long Beach, and O'Shea and I have a great working relationship. The rumors of my dismissal are as baseless as the rumors that I'm trolling BBA message boards and posting comments in order to earn more of some imaginary things called 'participation points.' This is serious business, and I'm good at my job. Collins and shoeless don't scare me. The only thing that scared me lately is my scouts reports about Jay Hodge's stuff deteriorating. Well, that and his moustache. What an atrocity."

Even a boring TN is worth 2 points! But this one is not boring at all, even though it's weird to think any fan base would like to have a guaranteed October loss over pretty much anyone else.
