2054.02 - The Long Beach Independent - New Look Surfers Surging Through April

DORSEY, GEAUXINUE LEAD CHARGE

April 15, 2054
Long Beach, CA

The Surfers (9-4, T-1) are back home from a quick three game road trip to Seattle (8-5) and preparing for their first inter-divisional match up of the season tomorrow against the Des Moines Kernels (7-6).

As has come to be expected from the current front office, the free agent signing period was exciting for Surfers fans, with big name acquisitions including 2B Ryan Geauxinue, RF Fernando Castillo and 1B Keith Kerfoot.

Castillo is off to a rough start, but Geauxinue (.377/.389/.434) and Kerfoot (.358/.393/.623) are red hot and key to the Surfers scoring 66 runs (6th, FL) so far this season. They're also providing excellent defense, and along with Alejandro Cordova and Steveland Morris in the infield, the Surfers rank 4th in defensive efficiency.

On the pitching side, previously featured starter Wayne Dorsey is off to a 2-0 start with a 2.38 ERA over 11.1 innings. His 2054 debut on April 3rd in San Fernando was a solid start of 5 innings with 5 strikeouts on 83 pitches. That was followed up by a gem against Valencia at home on April 9th, where he pitched into the 7th inning, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits in a very efficient outing of 81 pitches.

Second baseman Ryan Geauxinue (pronounced goes-in-you), the 27 year old from Cockermouth, England has been impressive in his first two weeks with the Surfers. There were significant questions around the league about the the size of the deal that he signed (guaranteed 4/$48) but he certainly earned the deal after a 4.9 WAR season and batting title with the Mexico City Aztecs. Long Beach's stadium should serve Geauxinue well, as it boosts singles hitters and slightly depresses gap power.
