Long Beach Hitting Coach Shane Kilhane had some choice words for an AP stringer this evening following the Surfers' 8-3 loss against the Des Moines Kernels, completing a 3 game sweep and extending the losing streak to four games.
Likely recalling a recent blurb in The Independent, AP stringer Saul Holden asked Kilhane to comment on Steveland Morris' recent performance.

What the fuck do you think is my opinion of it? I think it's fucking dogshit. He's oh fer eighteen without even a single walk and you're asking my fucking opinion of his performance? We're in a fucking wild card race here, we put him back in the fucking leadoff spot and this is what he does for us? It's fucked, man, it's just fucked.
On the season, Morris is hitting just .258/.314/.343, and with the struggles of the pitching staff this season, every ounce of offense that the team can muster is essential. It would be irresponsible to pin a losing streak entirely on one player, but a stretch like this from the leadoff position is certainly a hurdle for a team to overcome.
We reached out to the front office for comment, but did not hear back immediately. This is Kilhane's second season with the Surfers and with the exception of Morris, there have been great results from the rest of the team offensively. Across nearly every major batting stat, the team ranks toward the top of the Frick League and is currently third in runs scored.
