ACTUALLY NOT A DISASTER...?

2051 Surfers Season in Review

In what will likely be his last year as a Surfer after exercising his opt-out, CF Todd Rice had a bounce back season, hitting .305/.331/.420 with 13 steals and passable defense in CF and some good defense in RF. He's likely best suited for a corner going forward, but at age 32, he's probably got a good short at one more big contract.

Playing the rest of the time in RF with a bit of time in LF, Josh Mesh had an impressive season, posting a .276/.320/.490 line and 3.0 WAR. The 28 year old, acquired in 2046 from Seattle, didn't have much playing time last year, but could be lined up for significant time in 2052 in an attempt to repeat this season's success.

Bobby Horne played an uninspiring 99 games, and Dave Barnett played an even less inspiring 57 games.

On a more intriguing note, 2046 second rounder Carlito Brigante appeared in 65 games (54 starts) and slashed an impressive .292/.344/.344 adding 14 steals. If he's able to repeat such a line, he could pair with Steveland Morris to make a pesky combination of contact and speed for opposing pitchers.

Finally, at DH, righty Gonzalo Martinez remembered how to hit after a disappointing 2050 season. He hit .272/.343/.479 and started all 162 games for the Surfers. He exercised his option for 2052 and the Surfers will hope to see him bounce back to the 3+ WAR level that he displayed during hit time in Sacramento.
