UUUH...

2051 Surfers Year in Review

Big-name free agent acquisition Pedro Gomez and a former Seattle farmhand and Mexico City Rule 5 draft pick split the catching duties in 2051, and I'll let you guess which one had the better season. Yup, that's right, the unknown Joe Zwicker hit .255/.338/.398 good for 1.4 WAR in a far better season than Gomez' .281/.301/.403 negative-0.6 WAR season. Can't predict baseball, as they say.

Danny Adkins was as advertised coming over from Rockville (.291/.373/.513) and free agent acquisition Francisco Arredondo did well enough in 143 games (.276/.324/.441) at second base..

In a disappointing season, 2050 breakout Steveland Morris played only 84 games, mostly at shortstop with a bit of 2B and 3B in there as well. When he wasn't injured, he hit .255/.324/.333 with 24 stolen bases.

At the hot corner, Juan Hernandez took another step back after 3+ WAR seasons in '48 and '49, hitting just .238/.294/.396 in 136 games. Now 30 years old, it looks as if those two seasons are all that the Surfers will get from the righty acquired in 2046 from Charm City.

Finally, defensive specialist Francisco Martinez did his think at SS, though his offense continues to be so bad that he should probably not be a BBA starter any longer. Kwan-uk Chong got some more opportunities to prove himself with the big club, playing 1B, 3B and even some SS. He hit just .245/.333/.350 and is quickly running out of time to establish himself as a major league contributor.
