TCHEKANOV WALKS MCBRIDE IN SURFERS WIN
April 29, 2048
Long Beach, CA
Prior to this evenings contest with the Portland Lumberjacks, Danya Tchekanov had not allowed a base on balls in all of 2048. That's right, not in six spring training appearances, nor in the first five starts of the regular season. It was noted early on by the league's commissioner that he was on pace for 270 K's and a 9-18 record while allowing no free passes.
He didn't keep the suspense going for long tonight, as he allowed a walk in the very first inning. Following a strikeout and a flyout, recent Portland acquisition Ernest McBride worked the count to 3-2, and fouled off two more pitches before taking the eighth pitch of the at-bat for the walk. He was stranded on first base however, as left fielder Wilson Alomar flied out on the first pitch of his AB.
Tchekanov went deep into the game, going 7.2 innings before being relieved by LOOGY extraordinaire Eric Hughes, but wasn't able to stick around long enough to earn the win. That honor went to José Luna for pitching one scoreless inning immediately preceding the Surfers' walk-off win.
Tchekanov is now on pace to end the season with a record of 6-18 with 6 walks allowed.
Go Surfers!

It takes balls to walk a batter. Four, to be precise.
