SHARK BITES

SURFERS NEWS AND NOTES

September 15, 2047

Starting pitcher Ernesto Delgado has been shut down for the rest of the season after being removed from his last start due to back tightness. The team does not feel that the risk of re-injury is worthwhile at the end of a season that will see the team end about 30 games under a .500 record. Delgado ends the season with a 4.76 ERA, 3.86 FIP, 1.29 WHIP, good for 2.9 WAR across 30 starts.

Likewise, starter Ken Walter, 34, has also been shut down. The righty is under contract with the Surfers for one more season, and has an extensive injury history. He's been successful in his time in Long Beach, and won 10 games with a 4.15 ERA this year in 29 starts. He figures to be a member of the rotation again in 2048.

Taking their places to finish off the year are a couple of prospects that could be competing for spots in that rotation next spring. Peyton Browning, 27, is a local kid from Bell, and saw some time in Long Beach last year. He's a long shot to be a regular rotation member, but with excellent velocity and a 5 pitch mix, he could be a candidate for a reliever conversion in the future.

The other call up is Manuel Dominguez, a 24 year old righty. Dominguez is another hard thrower, but is having the all too common trouble with changeup development. Scouts say that it flashes 8 on at times, but he's not been able to harness it in game. If he does, he could be a solid back end starter.

We'll leave you with an uplifting tidbit, as scouts in the organization report that Luis Manuel Rodriguez has finally found that 'something extra' that they always knew was there, and now rate his stuff as 12/12. He's got a 2.89 ERA in 93.1 innings this season.
