DH O'HANLY IS BEST IN FRICK LEAGUE

The BBA announced this afternoon that Long Beach designated hitter Mike O'Hanly is the Frick League Rookie of the Month for June. The twenty four year old switch hitter had an excellent month and was deemed the best rookie in the league despite only starting 17 games.

In June, O'Hanly hit .343/.407/.643 with 6 home runs and 3 doubles, scoring 15 times and driving in 15 more. Though a switch hitter, he sees the ball much better from the left side of the plate and thus sees most of his starts against right handed pitching.

He was acquired last August from Seattle as part of the package of prospects send to Long Beach in exchange for taking on Ken Walter's salary. Walter, 34, is currently on the injured list with shoulder inflammation, but had bee off to a good start with a 3.94 ERA through 17 games.

O'Hanly is performing as one of the best rookie hitters in the Frick League, but if you were thinking about him as a candidate for the Gillstrom, think gain. A strong cadre of pitchers led by Ken Arroyo in Valencia have a strong WAR lead over any Frick League hitters.
