Division Remains Tight
Thanks in large part to winning the recent head to head series against Hawaii 3-1, the Surfers have pulled ahead in the FLP race. They hold a 1.5 game lead, and have 4 games to play. The Tropics have 3 to play, putting the magic number at 3. The winner of the division earns the important bye in the Geoghegan Round.
Simpson a Marvel
There's few, if any players in the BBA like Mark Simpson. The 36 year old continues to confound fans with his offensive performance. He hasn't skipped a beat from his performance in Omaha earlier this season, as he's hitting .192/.408/.423 in Long Beach. Despite the batting average, this line is good for a 116 OPS+. He's also hit 3 homers in 52 AB, giving him 469 on his career, and 349 in Long Beach.
Borges & Brackett
Tomas Borges, after a brief stint in AAA Commerce, is on fire in September. He's hitting .333/.419/.630 in September. The switch-hitter is mostly seeing time against left handed pitching. His platoon partner, Cary Brackett, has been a marvel in 61 games since his call-up. First called up in 2043 as a shortstop, he posted -2.5 WAR. This season though, as a second baseman, he's been worth 1.4 WAR and has provided excellent defense at the keystone. He's hitting .249/.354/.420, good for a 99 OPS+.
